Thoughts on Recreational, Challenge and Sport Level of Leagues?
« on: September 02, 2010, 11:38:45 PM »
We have used the Challenge Patterns the last two years and now we are trying the USBC Blue Patterns and they are so easy and honestly provide no challenge at all.  So is it back to adult bumper bowling or nothing?

The genesis of this issue is that I developed a league for ten+ years based on the idea of having Challenging Conditions that are 100% legal.  I have used the challenge patterns for a few years from Kegel and because it is not "ADULT BUMPER BOWLING" my bowlers have averaged less than they have averaged in the past due to the VERY EASY / SOFT CONDITIONS they were accustomed.  So, many bowlers from other centers wanted to come to my league because we were the only offering the Challenge option.  Local has slammed us big time, states we are bagging, cheating, and have re-rated the bowlers.

So the question is what was my intent?  To make bagging legit?  No, i wanted to be a better bowler and soft easy bumper bowl options were no help. I wanted a league that offered an alternative to what EVERYONE else offered and I was successful.  32-34 teams a year and usually a wait list.  I have found success breeds contempt.

I guess they need to make three levels of league?  Recreational, Challenge or Sport.  Award the leagues accordingly and have standardized adjustments from there.  I would go sport 100% if it was not for the Lane Graph thing-tape every night.  The center just does not have the man power to be taping, running, graphing etc.  Economy does not allow that luxury.
