Bowling Centers in the US
« on: July 15, 2008, 03:33:54 AM »
This probably has been posted by someone else before (although I haven't seen it), but I thought it interesting to see which US states have the most alleys at the moment:

Bowling centers by the State

Hopefully these numbers don't diminish much for a long time to come.

Out of the 39 listed for Maine, only 9 of those are 10 pin bowling alleys.  The other 30 are candlepin.

Not sure how acurate or old this list is but in MD they list bowling Asso. and a couple of proshops and at least 2 centers I saw that have been gone for a long time.

When "lesser" known/popular variant forms of our game have more establishments, it can't bode well for our sport.

On a side note, I have (although many years ago) tried my luck at both candle-pin and duck-pin bowling, and being that those games are so different from 10 pin bowling, I wasn't very good at it I guess it comes down to learning the proper fundamentals, like every other game.

Yeah, now that I check some of the lanes that I've known of, it does seem that this list is somewhat out of date.  In other words, there most likely are a lot less alleys around than what this list states.

Definitely not a recent list based on copyright dates and the fact they show Associations as WBAs and YABAs.  Sad to say several of the Cali centers have closed.

That list is horribly outdated. I looked at the bowling alleys on Staten Island, in NY, and all but 1 of the places mentioned is still around.
