If you can't beat 'em, join em!
« on: October 25, 2004, 01:41:53 PM »
I've reached the conclusion that the THS is never going to change, people in leagues are not ever going to demand tougher (or even varying) conditions, there will never be a fair handicap system that discourages sandbagging, and the ABC (or whatever it's called now) hasn't got enough sac to stand up and put caps on the ball manufacturers or require heavier pins.

Therefore, this is my last post griping about the state of bowling and the lack of integrity in the game.  Since I can't beat them, I will join them!  For now on, I will show up to league with my 4 ball roller filled with "hook in a box", swill beers, and fling away.  If I match up, great, if not, well I'll just have another beer!  Hell with it, the game is supposedly just for fun anyway, right?

How about you?  You gonna stand up and fight for what's right?  Fight the losing battle for integrity in the game and take on the sandbaggers and ball companies?  Or are you going to be like me, and flop your lazy arse on the couch and say "to hell with it"?

Nope, I'll keep fighting as long as I can breath.  There may be a little sunshine peeking out, I noticed a while back Mumzie mentioned something about the women of the USBC considering the rolling average recommendation I made.  Maybe I've sent enough letters to get someone's attention.

Besides, the battle is never over until one side quits.

NICE SHOOTING BOWLINGTOURNEYCOM!!!

I think everyone ought to do what I try to do.
I try to beat 'em all on the house shot, while pushing for a tougher shot...
Great combination.

Little impact?

If the history pages of this forum allow you to go back 2 years to see what was being said, I say go back and look at the discussions.  I'm seeing a major change happening right before my eyes!!!  People in this forum, bowlers in my league, tournament bowlers around here, proprietors around here, and pretty much everybody else in the industry is TALKING about how change needs to happen.  People are trying sport shot leagues, PBA leagues, and really enjoying themselves more than ever before.  Just the fact that the discussion is occurring much more today than it was a year ago, or two years ago, says something!

9andaWiggle, I'm very sorry you have given up the good fight.  Hopefully tonight was just a frustration point and you will come back to your senses soon.  I feel your frustration, but too many positive changes are happening around me to give up now!!!!!!!

Seriously people, I'm not making this up.  Keep talking about this stuff.  Keep talking with the bowlers around you about what needs to be done and about the more challenging oil patterns.  The only way to beat spoken negativity is with spoken optimism.  It really does make a difference!  I promise you that change is inevitable, and it is up to us to push the change into the right direction.

Bones, I thank you for the pat on the back, but you are going to wear out you bowling arm patting people on the back, because there are a LOT more like me than you think there are!

Don't give in to the sandbaggers!!  Bowl to have fun and if they want to bowl that way let them.  They are only hurting themselves and the sport.  I bowl in a house where the house average is 150!! That's right 150.  The mixed league bowls second shift/late evening with little or no oil.  If you can throw 20+ mph, you might have a decent game.  If you throw a hook.....

Everybody on the late shift cheers for other members not on their team when a stike is made.  I would get down on my hands and knees and prey for oil if would do any good.  We do have some very good bowlers that do get into a slump!  My team won the city turnament this past spring and carried the second highest average...154....

I bowled a 650 series.  I normally bowl between 450-570 for three games.  Some nights I'll do 600 or so and 390!!  The top player this year is in a slump.  He is the anchor man on my team.  He is averaging 120!!!!!! He normally bowls 180 to 200.  People called him a sandbagger!!  Well, he has a few problems this year.  I don't hold it against him.  He is just in a slump.

I've herd of teams sandbagging so that get a good handicap, and that's not right.  Always do your best and have fun.  I will be receiving a patch this evening.  I picked up the 6-7 split.  First time every during sanctioned bowling.  I just started back into bowling after leaving it in the 80's.  I've bowled in the 70's, 80's, not 90's, and started back last year!

Cheers

MichiganBowling is correct in that changes are being made, slowly and at very easy to miss speeds. Incrediably influential people in the bowling community are becoming out spoken in public forums such as the PBA's Forums, Bowlers Digest and the Phantom Radio (and many many others) on the topic of restoring integrity.

Any change that happens always begins with people talking about the issues. This is clearly happening now and the messages is starting to become mainstream. The next step is to bring these advocates (like many of you here) together into a single meeting or organization. MichiganBowling and I have been working this angle and found out that this has already been discussed with far more impressive personalities than us leading the way.

The best thing we can do right now... is to simply use our voice more clearly and more loudly then ever. Create even more of a disturbance for the leaders in our industry to hear us. And support the concepts and changes that may appear.

The battle is just begining. MichiganBowling has taken it to the street and I have walked down it. What he says is true in Michigan. Bowlers and Propriator's are listening and change is truely happening up there. Bowlers are finding more competition and having more fun on fair conditions. They come back time and time again... simply to gauge there progress in developing skill. We need more people like MichiganBowling to step up and take charge and lead the way. Teach and show how it can be done.

9~ dont give up. Take charge. MichiganBowling can show you and teach you how it can be done. He has shown me and I believe.
