what to do
« on: June 03, 2010, 01:53:11 PM »
i recently retired from the military and took a job in a new city and well i decided to bowl a summer league to see how one of the local house plays well i was walking around the pro shop and first off the ball driller was a real jerk saying there was no way i could score in the house with my current equipment and that i should invest in new stuff or just hang it up. So me being me i decided to ask him if he wanted to bowl a couple games for a mear 20 per game not much by my standards. well enough with that i took his 60 bucks but i noticed over the past few weeks that i see a while lot of equipment that he has drilled are really illegal so do i say something about it or do i just keep my mouth shut i mean there are big numbers being shot and the association manager is just looking the other way. i have heard that this guy owns like all the city records but his stuff is so wrong one ball i saw him grab in desperation had the span drilled over the label with pin and cg probably 8 inches past grip line. so i ask you what would you do?

Who cares?

The sideweight doesn't affect striking on modern equipment.  You give me a ball drilled over the label against a 215 bowler with an illegal ball and I'll still clean their bank account out.

You already took his money. He is probably going to remain very unhappy with your presence anywhere. So if you make trouble for him, do you think
a) he'll take it "lying down"?
and
b) why will all his customers believe you, a stranger, when they have been going to him for years?

Unless there's no other driller for miles, there's no one to corroborate whther you're right or wrong. (You're probably right, but what difference would it make, if you made enemies and not converts. This is almost a "religious" matter.)

On the other hand, unless you're a driller, where are you going to get your new balls drilled?

They are just stupid then...let them live in their ignorant little world.  It's not worth the heat it would put on you just to prove a point.

What does an illegal ball do? does it hook more?

All these new balls hook so freakin much anyway.

ROTFLMFAO, that's what I like about bowling. The drama, the mystery, the hacks with scales in their eyes. Let me ask this, what does an illegal ball look like. You must be good, to tell an illegal ball just by looking at it. You all wonder why bowling is in the crapper, just read this stuff, what a joke.

+1

If static weights dont effect the ball then who cares if its "illegal"

first off kid I've got quite a bit of experience in this sport. i have drilled balls for the better part of 2 decades and have seen alot but yeah i can get a pretty god idea if a ball is legal or not by cg locations a if its a xout or not where the x hole is at if any. the problem with the sport is people nowadays dont respect the game and people like you are the reason the game is a joke nowadays. i started bowling 32 years ago i've watched people do whatever it takes to get a edge i still beat them but your gonna say that its ok for some guy to go out there and cheat and its ok with you thats the real underlining problem with todays game too easy and peole fill the deserve scores instead of earning them

I would take another 60 from him and let him know how you still beat him even though he was using illegal equipment..
