Title: Bowling hand update - joint/arthritic pain
Post by: xrayjay on February 01, 2017, 02:05:58 PM
For those who know about my arthritic or painful joints on my hands, more on my right... well, I started taking Turmeric supplements: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DBTFO98/ref=sr_ph_1_s_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1485978216&sr=sr-1&keywords=joint+pain

I've been doing this for almost a week. I take two pills twice a day, not what is recommended on the bottle. Well, I am happy to report that this stuff works!!!

I wake up without pain and I have full function of my hand. Not stiff and painful. I could hold the tooth brush in the mornings! During the day at work, I have no pain at all and my flexibility is back. Driving home, my hand don't go numb from holding or shifting the stick.

Yesterday, I took the 8lbs medical sand bag 8" sq., similar to the training aid sold online, and I was able to cup my hand underneath and take a full swing without pain or dropping the sand bag. Prior to taking the supplements, the bag would fall off my hand due to pain as my swing passed my hips. I could not hold on to it unless I took a short swing.

On Sunday, I bowled 6 or 7 games. Then when I got home, I cut shapes using the scissors for my 3 year daughter. In the past, the base of my thumb would be so painful that I can't use the scissors. My hand would be stiff as well.

I just thought I'd pass this on. I know many use OTC medication for inflammation and pain, maybe this supplement would be a better choice.

Congratulations my brother! Glad to know you are one of the blessed ones to have found this out! I have been using turmeric spice for about 6 months now, with great success as well!

It works a thousand times better than any glucosamine tablet I'd ever taken before! And I get my spice straight off the grocery shelf at our local grocery store.

I read about this on a natural healing foods website and gave it a try. Now, I'm telling all my friends as well. My knees have never felt better, and I'm able to bowl painless without having to drop three or four tabs of ibuprofen!

Seriously, Turmeric? I have not heard of that before. Think it might help with a sciatic nerve issue?

I do a bunch of exercises everyday to keep it in check currently.

I got a water ionizer (Kangen water) for sale, only $4000 dollars.  Tons and tons of health benefits.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_ionizer

After all, "I drink it daily and can testify to it......I wouldn't be able to bowl without it".  Don't listen to the naysayers.  They're just haters.   ;)  :P

In all reality, one of my best friends has parents who used to buy this type of stuff from the ole door-to-door salesman.  They spent a TON on all of it and I will never forget some of the stories....

It's sold in grocery stores everywhere! About $3 a bottle in my neck of the woods. It sure solved my issues. Nothing beats a failure, except a TRY! I'm just saying!

Mustard has turmeric doesn't it? Can I just eat a lot of hot dogs with mustard and onion and get the same effect?

Of course, eating a lot of hot dogs with mustard and onion could be one of the reasons for my sciatic nerve issue in the first place.  ;D

I work in the medical field and I don't like taking meds. I do take blood pressure pills even though I have great lab results.....And another thing I've noticed taking my blood pressure the last 4 days....

It's lowered even more. 112-120 systolic and 58-70 diastolic. Heart rate 65-70.

The curcumin they say helps arteries, lower blood cholesterol, and blood pressure. I'm not saying this supplement is doing it, but with my BP meds, my blood pressure was in the 120-135 systolic and 70-80 diastolic range. just something I noticed, so I'm not saying it really does...

my current doctor does both western and "eastern" medicine - an Assymetrical vodoo dr. I'll see what he says next week.

FYI Cinnamon is a lot like turmeric in a similar way - it's also a natural anti-inflammatory.

Yes, but it's only to help the natural color of the mustard seeds. There isn't enough to help counteract the deadly effect of the poison that's in the hot dog. :)

Milo you're not helping!

76 and these mom and pop gas stations here have hot dogs for $2.50 for 2 any size. When the dogs leave the buns on each side, it's a damn good dog!

Is the McRib back?

Have you had the CostCo deal? A huge dog and a drink for $1.50

Can't beat that deal.

They need to make the McRib a permanent menu item in my opinion.

If CostCo wasn't a circus, I would hit that up once a week! lol

I've heard that about cinnamon. I tried a cinnamon regimen several months ago. I had to stop, because it made my teeth hurt, constantly. I know.....weird...right?

Many people have unusual sensitivities. Maybe it was too high a dosage?

Yes! You are probably right! Anything in excess is not good for you. Probably should have just halved the dosage. Live an learn.

A patient I saw today is an avid senior bowler. She and her husband are in a league. They are in their 70's with different health issue between the two of them. She said her husband won't let health issues stop him from bowling, even after having a quadruple bypass 5 years ago.

She worked at a soup plant, NFL players loving the stuff, for decades and has worse OA/RA than I have. Like her husband, this hand pain doesn't stop her from bowling with her husband....... I feel like a weakling compared to these two bowling warriors. lol

Husband is a low 200 average bowler and she's <170. To me, these two are both inspirations!!

(second couple to be bowlers in the senior division that I've met, just awesomeness)

For the last month, after and during the end of bowling, I've developed some annoying wrist pain. I can also feel it in the top of my hand and when I grip things tightly or flatten my hand out and push to do like a push up. I might have to try this. Also looking into wrapping it with KT tape from now on.

Anyone tried the Storm Neoprene wrist support with any luck? Seems like a simple band so wasn't sure how well it really worked.

I had some increasingly painful wrist pain.
tried multiple braces, ended up having a partial wrist fusion 8 months ago
was back throwing the ball 5 months later, painfully, I might add
The Robbys rev III was a lifesaver  http://www.robbys.com/positioners.php

Took some getting used to for sure, but really no wrist pain as I slowly got my strength and ball speed back.
Took it off about a month ago and havent looked back, still hurts some days, but not anywhere near it was prior to the surgery

I also had this one before and now this is all I wear
http://www.futuro-usa.com/3M/en_US/futuro-us/products/~/FUTURO-Sport-Wrap-Around-Wrist-Support?N=4318+3294508031+3294529207&rt=rud

I actually put this on about 45-60 before I bowl, and kind of tight
It seems to make my hand swell a little and I deal with thumb fit issues when I get there

I may just been squeezing and not realizing it since this is a recent thing. I'm going to try some thumb tape, untuck my pinky, and try and relax my hand a little more overall and see what happens. Probably picking up the Basic Storm neoprene wrist support as well.

I had this issue also this past summer. I would experience wrist pain coupled with pain in the top of my hand, all along the fingers. I think it comes from gripping the ball too tightly right before release. I already wear a Masters wrist support, that is tight but also flexes. What alleviated my pain was buying some regular hospital tape, like they tape ankles with, and taping my wrist tightly, to wear underneath my brace, before each bowling set. This has reduced the pain greatly, and I no longer have episodes where I lose strength in my hand and drop the ball!

Thanks for the info! I will have to check out that medical tape to wear under the wrist support. Going to pick up the wrist support from my PSO tonight to try out. He also asked me if I think I've been squeezing a lot lately. I think I really might be.
