From there, probably Palace over on Bellaire.  Have no idea how the house is NOW as it has been what seems like a good decade (OK, probably six years) since I last bowled there.  At the time, it was a wood house and still independent.

Its relatively close (not from Houston, so don't hold me to that).

We just had our first tourney of the year at Palace (SWIBC Singles) a couple of weeks back, and I was pleased.  They don't have a pro shop, which is unforgivable of a bowling center, but the lanes were replaced relatively recently and the center is clean.

All 8 bowlers we took qualified for match play, and one of our guys won, so we liked it!

Go eat at Chuy's!  The blue corn enchiladas are to die for...think they call it the 911 hot plate, or something like that.

Careful of the Margaritas.  I think they slip in some grain alcohol for extra punch.  3 of 'em will knock you on your backside.

From the Galleria area, my guess is you are looking at less than five miles or so.  It will probably take longer getting out of the Galleria traffic mess than it will once you get onto 610...

If you like Louisiana fare, there's a little place at the intersection of Westheimer and the 610 Loop (can't remember the name).  If you're heading out on Westheimer towards the Galleria it'll be on the right about a block before you get to the 610 loop.  Great bugs, terrific etouffee (pronounced et-too-fay), darn good oysters (if you like eatin' snot), and a great selection of ice cold beer.

Have fun!  Houston's a great place (for a swamp)...miss it a bunch.

I think you are referring to "Willie G's".  Good food.  Palace is a great independent bowling center where they do treat league bowlers with respect.  However, on weekends, it is typical of most centers since they cater to open play at that time.  Nothing wrong with that, but if you want a decent shot, I would suggest calling ahead to find out their oiling schedule on the weekends to pick a time to bowl.  They also host a lot of tournaments so you might get lucky with some competition.

yes, please...go...go far away, only to return when you get a coach and an RB that can hold onto the ball.

At least the Coogs are winning this year...

THANKS for ALL the info.
Steve, we get to see your great state twice this year. Dallas for Thanksgiving!
Spmc, we don't worry about the oil since we use house equip anyway. Its just some fun time for some of the equip staff and a couple of our players.
Michelle, we will try our best to make your feeling true but...we are not the best going either!!
Got to get going, team buses start to leave in a little while.
AGAIN, a BIG THANKS to ALL for the info,
Later, Gene
