Bowling in tennis shoes.
« on: October 16, 2009, 05:22:41 AM »
Just wondering if anyone bowls in tennis shoes. My friend has bowled in tennis shoes for over
50 years. He used to be PBA member in the 70's.He never won a national title, but won regional
titles. He still bowls in his tennis shoes today and averages 230's plus.He is a tweener and I have
usually seen crankers wearing tennis shoes. His style is plant and release.

You may be the better bowler, but my car would blow the doors off of yours.

I have seen a few local guy's with running shoe's and what not. There all cranker's and planter style. I'm the same way but I use Brunswick Shoe's that are setup for minimum slide. Nothing wrong with wearing street shoe's for bowling as long as they do not mark up the approaches.

the thing i like about bowling in sneakers is that it keeps me from getting too fast to the line, have to stay slow so i don't get stuck & fall.  just changed the sole/heel on my sst8's  to see if it helps with my fast feet.

when i'm just screwing around at work i normally don't bother to put on my normal bowling shoes, i just use whatever i'm wearing at the time, crocs, sandals, whatever.  I can go from planting and ripping to sliding quite a bit with no timing issues

I wish this was something the USBC would ban. It's too easy to deface the approach with a scuff mark or dragging the foot. I've seen guys come from outside when it's RAINING and go straight to the approach, leaving a trail of water behind them!!!! Then some dope decides to use easy slide to compensate, and now there is a real mess.

Just ban it.

No reason to ban them, just enforce the rules about defacing the lanes that are all ready in place.
If the shoes are marking the lanes they violate the rules. They getting easy slide on the lanes, that violates the rules. Enforce them.

quote:
Rule 12 - Approaches Must Not Be Defaced
The application of any foreign substance on any part of the approach that detracts from the possibility of other
players having normal conditions is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to talcum powder, pumice and
resin on shoes, and/or soft rubber soles or heels that rub off on the approach.
