Bowling iPhone app for stats tracking
« on: January 03, 2010, 12:57:55 AM »
Hi,

Happy New Year to everyone!

I just wanted to let people know that I've just finished creating a bowling
iPhone/iPod touch app that tracks all sorts of stats.  Check it out if you
get a chance:

http://www.wholebrainstudios.com/

I'm considering making a "pro" version that would include team tracking and
a variety of other cool things, so any and all feedback is welcome!

Thanks!!

Will there be a version for Android?

If you need a beta tester let me know.

I've been considering doing some Android app development, but for now, it's only available for the iPhone and iPod touch.  Sorry about that.

Yeah, that would be nice too  I had to pick a platform to go with, and with the bazillion iPhones out there, it was hard not to choose that first.

We'll see how it goes.  The core code should be fairly portable, so I could see porting it eventually if there were enough interest.

You guys should pick up an iPod touch as a toy (not as a phone).  There are some really cool things it can do!  I just got one for my wife and as long as you have wi-fi access, it just as slick as the iPhone in terms of the internet and access to the app store.

It doesn't handle baker style games directly, but if all you're really interested in is strike/spare percentage (not actual game score), you could just enter the frames for a single person and once they bowl 10 frames (2 games for baker style), you'd have the correct stats for them.

You'd need a copy for each player you wanted to simultaneously track, but it's certainly possible.

You really should make an Android version. Most of the new phones are going to Android. They soon will over take the iPhone in numbers.

The Android OS is the next platform I'm going to look at, and I don't doubt that its popularity is growing fast, but there are 30+ million iPhones (7m sold in Q4 2009) and probably even more iPod touch devices out there already.  That's a pretty nice installed base for a garage app developer like myself
