Removing Callouses from your bowling thumb
« on: December 30, 2009, 10:45:53 PM »
Hi guys.  After almost 25 years of bowling I have developed a fairly good size callous on the back side of my thumb between the knuckle with your hand and the joint of my thumb.  I know it is caused from having a thumb hole too big and loading it up with tape.  The tape on the backside of my thumb hole caused this callous to form and now I'm trying to remove the callous.

Any suggestions?

Thanx.

I use a nail clipper to take off the dead skin. Works great... and MUCH safer than a dremel or a knife!

Once you get the callous off, replace all that tape with one of Ron Clifton's Magic Carpets.

No more callous!

How about check your pitches and span to prevent yourself from getting these callous? Its worth a shot to prevent yourself from having to cut them off. Also possibly reducing how much you grab the ball on the down swing.

I would suggest just using a normal file. Just file your callous down enough so it stops bothering you, but is still there. Then your thumb won't hurt when you bowl again. I use this technique for bowling and racing motocross.
