Choosing a line to the pocket
« on: January 03, 2010, 12:41:17 PM »
When I bowl, specifically in tournaments, I try to play as straight as I can.  I consider my style to be speed dominant so I can just keep winging it down there and stay generally in the same area throughout.  I remember back in the old days with Mike Durbin and Randy Peterson saying when the lanes get nutty, straighter is greater.  That being said, I'm throwing anywhere from 200's to 240's and just barely making the cuts.  I feel like I'm leaving some pins out there.

I'm asking how you guys (and gals) make decisions on angles and the balls you choose.  Thanks and have a great 2010.

First, you have to take what the lanes give you.  Second, I look around to see how is scoring and where they are playing, especially if I'm fishing.

Length of pattern - 31 = Approximate Breakpoint Board

That equation only applies if the pattern is relatively flat.   Depending on the ratio of oil in different zones on the lane, it can effect where the break point really is.

He did say specifically in tournaments though.

Yeh, on a shot with lots of friction outside it might not apply, but that's usually more of a typical house shot. =)

That a Kegel guideline, so if he knows he's playing one of their patterns then its maybe useful.
