Bowling League on Multiple Condition
« on: September 29, 2011, 11:11:38 PM »
We are starting a new league that will be played over a number of different oil patterns through the season..

I can foresee a few problems, like people complaining who they end up playing on various patterns as different patterns will suit different players.

I know a lot of you play this sort of league, such as PBAX leagues, so I was wondering if you could share how these problems are overcome or avoided?  Or any other problems that we can maybe try to avoid?

We were thinking that if we play patterns in the long/short catagories, then if we switch the schedule round for the second half of the league, so you play everyone on a long pattern and a short pattern, that should even things out..

Since I originally posted this topic the league has started and we are 10 weeks into the league.. its going pretty well so far, very little complaining which is good :)  We are pretty used to poor lane conditions here, so a league with lots of good, but often challenging, conditions is going down well!

A nice side effect of changing conditions every 2 weeks is that your handicap does not have a chance to adjust... Lets say you average 200 on longer patterns and 180 on shorter patterns, your handicap will be off 190.. which means you have a slight advantage on longer patterns and disadvantage on shorter patterns... this throws up lots of unexpected results, which keeps the league interesting!

I am especially enjoying the league, as I am leading! :-D lol

For the sake of discussion, what were the few complaints that were given?

GoodTimes, not really any complaints so far so to speak...

Before we started, when selecting patterns, it was a top of discussion whether we played one week on each pattern at a time, 4 weeks per pattern and use less patterns, or the 2 weeks which we are doing... the concern was that the number of weeks on each pattern would affect the handicaps.

Also, it was suggested we play medium length patterns too in addition to long and short, but that would mean you could play long and medium against a person, or medium and short, which could lead to arguements if a player feels he doesn't get to play someone on his or her own strongest pattern!
