Tonight a bowler on the other team punched the ball return and then punched a wall because he was bowling really bad. After punching both, he became injured and could not bowl anymore. Rule 108 - Failure to complete game came into play and rule 108A was applied: an injury occurred, therefore 1/10th of league's absentee score was added for the remaining frames.
Now here's my gripe: He was injured because of throwing a fit while bowling badly - He wasn't injured while in the act of bowling and it wasn't due to any sort of accident. In addition, the absentee score actually boosted his score as the absentee score was better than what he was bowling. So he ended up with a higher score than if he had finished bowling without punching anything.
As an alternative, should our league officer applied rule 108B instead which states that the remaining frames should be marked zero because the bowler stopped bowling "Without Cause"?
The rules are here on pages 51-52:
I'm curious to see how any of you would interpret this as a league officer as the rules seem to have shades of grey and are open to interpretation...and for the record, he probably has a broken hand - he wasn't faking injury. The question is, was it "without cause"?
