bowling mechanical issues
« on: August 30, 2004, 10:45:15 AM »
Hey guys im a rather rookie to bowling. Ive only been bowling for a year and a half, and ive gotten pretty good at it. The problems im having to date are from the way i had been bowling, by coming to the line and let the ball go with speed and revs has been hurting my knee and chin lately. I invested in one of those slides for the leg and it has helped me slide better and has taken the strain off my legs but im not scoring like i use to. I feel more comfortable now than i did before but I have totally slowed my game down. What can i do to effectively score and bowl when taking my time. Right now when the lanes dont have oil on them I have a tough time hitting my mark and just overall being effective. I guess i might have to find another line as oppose to playing up ten.

You said you have been hurting in the knee and chin.  How does your chin come into play?   Are you hitting it with your knee?

I guess i mispelled. I meant shin or the bone right below the knee.I would get to the line and let the ball go but I would do this pound when i stopped to let the ball go or this kind of hop skip. But i seemed to be more effective letting the ball go that way as oppose to sliding and letting the ball go. I belive sliding and letting the ball go is more effective im just not bowling like I use to when i didnt slide as well.

The best thing you can do as a beginner is to get a coach - someone who can see you in person and work with you regularly.  Best investment you can make.

Generally, slower speed equals more accuracy.  Practise a bit more and see if you really have lost accuracy with your new slower speed style.  It might just be a timing issue.

Check out Ron Cliftons site for his tips and see if there is anything there that you can relate to.
