Stubborn Teamate
« on: August 08, 2004, 09:20:30 AM »
A teammate of mine ,I've bowled with last three years will just not listen. He's a cranker that starts against the ball  return playing 4th to 5th arrow in the  first game. All he uses is the latest greatest hook balls.  By the  2nd and third game he starts whining and crying the lanes are dry.  When I tell him too  buy a v2 dry, urethane ball, or maybe a less hooking reactive, he says those are for dry lanes I don't need that kind of ball.  This guys been bowling 10 years and doesn't understand that if he used something less hooking the last 2 games he could keep his line all night. This is keeping him from being 190+ avg.  Instead  he's 160. I've explained this to him a million times but its like talking to a brick wall. Hes holding the team back in my eyes mentally and score wise,  But my other teammates are his good buddies so its ok to them. So my question is do I quit or stay with the team.

I have a guy on my mixed league who can crank the heck out of the ball.  He's only a 170ish average.  If he's striking he can throw 250-270 games like nobody's business.  When he's not striking he can bowl games as low as 120.  Why, he sucks at spares.

I tell him all the time that if he would just learn to make spares he'd be at least a 190+ bowler.  Some people are just THICK.  To say the least, it drives all of us bananas.

I have trouble understanding why he doesn't want to make the effort to improve his game. Especially, when it's such an easy fix.

I know I TRULY DO NOT UNDERSTAND IT! Like it seriously in-furiates me! My gf is a perfect example. She is a really low rev stroker, but she never will move in, she stands on the middle dot at all times, and complains that "bowling doesnt like her" or that "she sucks at bowling" because she wont adjust. She could average 160 easily, if she'd freaking listen!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRR *steam shoots out ears*

I'd tell it to the whole team that you're serious about leaving if you (the rest of the team) decides to keep this annoying bowler aboard the team.  Then tell them to decide you or him (if you feel like going about it in that manner) and if they say him, then there's your answer.

Kid -

If you want her to learn, take my advice.

Have someone else teach her.  Chances are she'll listen to them but not you.

The Bowling Kid25: I agree that your girlfriend will probably be willing to listen to bowling tips from someone else, not you due to your closeness. I have a friend who tried to teach his girlfriends through the years and the fights that would ensue were quite entertaining. It's tough when you are close to someone to give them advice without hurting their pride/ego/feelings. My daughter won't even accept what little advice I offer at the lanes, yet my father will take in what I offer and try to apply it.
