Bowling on TV
« on: November 06, 2006, 05:54:54 AM »
Can the PBA actually make bowling exciting enough to compete with th NFL on sundays? Seems like that time slot takes alot of possible viewer ship out of the equation. I find myself going back to the games on a regular basis and not always going back to the bowling.

No I do not think they can compete with the NFL. There is too much money in the NFL and not enough in the PBA.

I remeber a few years ago Howie Long was asked a question: HAS FOOTBALL TAKEN OVER BASEBALL AS AMERICA'S FAVORITE PAST TIME.

His answer: NO, BASEBALL WILL ALWAYS BE AMERICA'S FAVORITE PAST TIME. BUT FOOTBALL IS AMERICA'S PASSION.

There are bigger stadiums for football to play in. You walk into a sports store and you can buy jersey's, helmets and t-shirts. Bowling does not have anything like that. I think the biggest reason for people watching football is the chance there is going to be a really violent hit. Just like NASCAR, the average fan is just waiting for that wreck that takes out half the field.

That is why I get upset when parents say they do not have the money to let their kids bowl on a league each week, but will drop 200-300 dollars going to a game. That money could very well have paid for their child to bowl. Parents do not want to take the time to bring their kids and then sit there and wait for them. It is all about convience for the parents.

We tried a league here a=on the base and only had 6 kids show up and bowl in it. This base has over 300 kids elementary school age and we could only get 6 kids to join the league. It was during the week and  after work for most ofthe parents that are here. So why couldn't we get more kids? Probably cause the parents think bowling is dumb. But if you talk to them, they do not know anything about it except what they saw on a Saturday night. Smoke filled centers and drunks. (Now, I am not saying this is true for every where, but for the most part it is.)

But we need to get more kids involved in bowling or we are going to lose this sport.

T.J.

BOWLING IS FUN NO MATTER WHAT YOU SCORE. BUT A 300 IS ALWAYS NICE.

STRIKE ZONE & PYRO. STAND 18 AND THROW 10 OUT TO 5 AND SMASH THE POCKET. AT LEAST THAT IS THE PLAN OF THE NIGHT...

GOOD LUCK AND GOOD BOWLING!!!
