@Michelle & Charlest: Wow! Your experiences, without a doubt are duly noted, however, the house we were bowling in had just upgraded all their resources. I don't know if they had brand new pins, but I do know they had new, clean approaches; new synthetic lanes; new monitors and controls, and improved air conditioning! The pattern was different then from previous years as well.

I based my original opinion on the fact that, that when I went to my "C" game, I suddenly began striking at will.

That to me says......inability to adjust, or just plain refusal to adjust.

Oh, I surely understood where you were coming from.
Unfortunately, here in NJ, the condition I described is not only a "disease" at my current home house, it seems to be endemic to many other NJ centers. In the 90% case, I would agree with you: on any relatively new lane surface and with a well maintained oil machine with good computer-run programs, every pair should be able to be played, at the start anyway, virtually identically by any decent bowler. I wish this were the case in 100% of the situations.

-Anyone who bowls with a hat on.

-Anyone who bowls with a towel hanging from their backpocket.

-Anyone who smokes and holds his pair hostage while everyone waits for him. (Ive started leaving the league session due to peoples total disregard of other peoples time)

-Anyone who reracks during shadow balls\warmups\practice.

-Anyone who "runs out" or "slaps out" shots in practice.

-Anyone who brings 6 balls to a 3 game league session

I don't get why people do this.  I'm a smoker but i'm always there before it's my turn.  Hell I even walked down stairs at nationals during the team event and was back way before my turn.  A little courtesy would be nice from the i'll take my time smokers.

Because they (the j/o and selfish-type smokers) simply do not care what others think.  NOTHING is more important than that cigarette that they are slave to....

It is unfortunate.

That to me says...additional facts entered into evidence after the opening statements ;)

And certainly it alters some of the opinion previously proffered...and yes, there are people who think an adjustment is nothing more than a ball change and listening to them can get quite frustrating.

The teams that have to keep the lineup even with the other team no matter what.  Meaning 2nd bowler will not bowl unless 2nd bowler is up on the other team and so on.  I understand doing this in the tenth, but the whole game...will be there all night!

bowlers with a 4 ball roller and a 160 avg in a THS league, and need to have all their balls on the ball return... just in case.

people taking forever to leave the approach after their shot.

the overly friendly team that have to high 5 EVERYTHING and make friendly jokes about EVERYTHING.

bowlers doing their best Goku charging a spirit bomb impression in their stance (I'm talking 20-30 seconds. stationary on the approach)

But most of all, my lack of mental strength and ability to block out aforementioned trivial annoyances.  :(

People who want you to help them with something but don't want to change anything they're doing.  They want a certain thing to work whether it should or not, and it's your job all the sudden to make something impossible happen.  "Well I bought this Raptor Talon because it's supposed to hook, so make it work on this 35 ft dry house shot I bought it for.  I paid you $250 for this thing so it better do what it's supposed to do."  Or "I'm having trouble releasing the ball, so could you add more reverse?  What?  Stop gripping it?  Well I want to grip it, just add more reverse.  What?  5/8ths reverse and 1/4 left is already a lot for a 4 1/2 inch span?  Well, I'm paying you for it, so just go ahead and do it."  And when it doesn't work out?  Yeah, that's right . .
What would you be if you were attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis?

During open play I get this question a bunch.  It usually comes from a guy much younger and bigger than me too.  "Do you have any 10 or 12 pound balls with bigger holes in them?"
I respond with "no those are drilled for women.  The ones that might fit your hand have a 15 on them..."

People who are not ready to bowl when it's their turn.

Or, people who are ready to bowl, in their stance, and their lane hasn't finished cycling yet when my lane (next to them) has cycled and I can't bowl because they're already on the approach in their stance. >:(

I agree with both of these.

I was at a tournament recently and a guy got up on the approach as the pinsetter just began to cycle while my lane was ready and waiting.  To top it off he's SLOW.  Once his lane finished cycling he then got in his position, then waits, waits, waits, waits, then finally starts his painstakingly slow approach.  THEN posts his shot (which is good technique, just more waiting for me), and his ball goes through the nose leaving a split and he stands there with his hands on his head talking to himself trying to figure out what went wrong...

Slow bowlers.  We have a guy in our sport league who takes generally at least 90 seconds from the time he gets up on the approach to the actual release.  He is constantly fussing with his hand and looking up and down several times at his target.  Whenever we bowl his team, you can count on a 3+ hour league session.  That is with 4 person teams  ::)
