I just switched this year from a 7 step approach (i know its a lot) down to a 5 step approach, with a short slide. My problem is my push off is so strong, it causes me to slide more then I'd like. Even with a low slide sole on my shoe, I still slide out sometimes.

PAP- 4in right, 2in up of center of grip.
Rev Rate-400ish
Ball Speed 18.0-19.0 mph
I score well with a slight chicken wing
Arsenal (for now)
DV8 Hell Raiser
DV8 Misfit- Orange and Blue, Light scuff with scotch bright to smooth out reaction

Planting will remove the approach from the equation and all problems that depend on the approach being good.

However planting can only hurt you in the long run with knee and other fairly serious leg problems. You may be able to forestall those problems for years or you could seriously damage your knee tomorrow, possibly requiring surgery and never bowling again. This applies to lightweight people and heavy people both. SO don't think you're immune.

Sliding is better for bowling. I think a short 3-6" slide may work best in the long run.

I slide. My left knee has a partially torn ACL. Planting would be the end of bowling for me in a relatively short time.
