League Arsenal Opinions
« on: August 23, 2012, 10:11:10 AM »
I am just trying to get a feel of what everyone else carries with them for a THS league night as far as how many balls and what kind of balls you usually take. I feel as though the more options I carry the worse I end up playing for the night. I have been carrying 4 balls(hellraiser, misfit, encounter and vibe). I have been experiancing some pretty drastic lane condition changes over the first 2 weeks of the season so far and I havent really been able to match up too well except for 1 game where I ran up the front nine. This past monday during the last game the lanes burned up pretty bad and I ended up with 5 splits for the game. On another night I was tuned in pretty good and scored fairly decent, nothing huge. The lanes have been super tight to start and then by game 3 three they were blown wide open. When I switch balls and try to play inside I get so inconsistent. I think I am going to carry two balls limiting my options and hopefully not screwing up during a match by switching balls and playing something I am not too comfortable playing. Any opinions?

But I bet I picked up the 1-2-4-6-10 more in one summer than you have EVER seen made!

You might have me there...  And I'm sure it was all the work of the "spare" ball... cuz I don't think that 100 Global bowler had anything to do with it.  :o  8)

Word this...

Storm Virtual Gravity
Storm Gravity Shift
Storm Shift
Storm Reign

I like it! It's similar to what I took last year to the drier of the two houses I bowl in - mostly older Storm stuff, except for the MP.

Storm Marvel Pearl(same cover as the Gravity Shift)
Storm Special Agent
Storm Reign
Storm Spit Fire

The other house I bowl in is typically wetter so I use:

Storm Marvel
Ebonite Vital Sign
Storm Marvel Pearl
Storm Reign

The Reign and Spit Fire will be replaced by other balls this year.

To answer the OP's question I take 4 because I have a Brunswick 4 ball roller. I decide what to take based on which house, one typically plays on the medium to medium-dry side, the other on the medium-heavy to medium side. Once the season gets going I could probably take 2 balls and my shoes in and I'd be good 90% of the time.

If the lanes dictate playing deep the only way to get comfortable with doing that is by actually playing deep. In the long run it will make you more versatile. Look at what others who are scoring are doing and see if you can do something similar. If you practice, practice playing deep. The more you do it the more comfortable you'll be with it. If you really struggle with playing deep I'd look into finding a coach.

Thanks al_g, I did take quite a few lessons and practiced fairly often over the summer. Last night was evidence of that. I tweeked my release and approach and threw the ball very well last night. I know I will have some ups and downs along the way and I was willing to accept that and changed my game for the better and thats why I came on here and asked what equipment you use for league nights. Thanks.

al-g, Thanks. I like your arsenal too...  I bring these so I can handle different conditions.  Seems my Reign is my most reliable & versatile of the bunch, followed closely by the Shift.

Hey Pike, I know you're out around Kane county. What centers do you bowl at?

Glad last night went well. It's always good to see results. Keep practicing/executing the process and you'll be good to go. I remember when I first learned to play deep(years ago). It probably took a half season to get comfortable with it but I'm glad I did.

To add one other thing, when I play deep on a THS I usually like to see a reaction that gets length and then rolls(not snaps) to the pocket. There's a place sometimes for the skid/snap reaction but if they're burnt I personally prefer something that will get length then roll so it doesn't over react off the dry or come in at too strong of an angle and leave the hard-ring 10 pin.

Pike - The Shift is probably one of my top 2 Storm balls ever. I was sad to replace it but it just wasn't getting it done anymore. The Marvel Pearl may rank right up there for me when it's all said and done.

That's how I feel about my Reign now... Shift was my #1... but it's 16lbs compared to my newer stuff being 15... But I have the Reign with the polish knocked off, not shiny at all... So it doesn't snap "as hard" as it could off the dry, but just enough for my liking.

I take my daughter to practice there on Sundays.Since I started bowling again a couple of years back,I've been bowling league at Parkside in Aurora.Nice house, and not the easiest house shot;there's a definite out of bounds.
