What are your thoughts on wearing your bowlings rings... Most of us who have rings do you still wear them or do you consider that showing off.. And for those who have several do you wear them all. Just wanted to know if I was the only crazy person who bought the gold multiple ring...
Which rings do you like best the old rings or the new rings
-
I personally don't wear any, but I don't wear jewelry. I don't think there's anything wrong with wearing one...you earned it. For people that wear more than one, I always thought it was a little tacky. Unless you're a pimp...lol
-
I've gotten to the point that the next 2 I order, 300 + 800 I'm getting the multiple top ones and wear those on a necklace on my neck. I don't wear rings on my fingers cause they just don't fit right and my weight fluctuates.
-
I wear either my 300 game ring or my 800 series ring every day. It took a lot of hard work to achieve these and I'm proud to show them in public. I chose the gold rings on my first 300 and 800 and have chosen to receive plaques on every one since. It doesn't make much sense to me to get a free metal ring for a 300 game or an 800 series. I also see these rings as high quality jewelry( which they are ). They go great with my wedding ring and Swiss-made watch.
-
I've only worn one of my 300 rings. I was fortunate enough to bowl a 300 game on my Father's birthday back in 1987, and he was there to see it. He died in 1989, and as a tribute to him, I wore the ring every day for a year.

When I broke the 800 record with an 867 in our bowling center I ordered an 800 ring with the 867 and center name abbreviated in the side and wore it for a couple of weeks because it was a local record. I never wore my other 800 rings or my 300 rings.
Showing off maybe, but deserved, yes.
-
I don't wear them. And I have never ordered Gold.
But I don't wear any jewelry, other than a watch.
I don't have a problem with people who wear one, but I'm with the others on wearing multiples being a little tacky.
-
I am not in the habit of wearing any jewelry because I was not allowed to during work so I rarely will wear either of my rings. When I do, I will usually wear my ABC Nationals ring as there were not as many of those awarded and it has that old-style look.
-
I will occasionally wear one, but it has to be on my non-bowling hand or it feels strange while bowling. The exception was my last 300 ring that I ordered in the smaller model. It's barely bigger than my wedding band and is much less cumbersome.
They represent an achievement that, although they are more common nowadays, the vast majority of bowlers never see one over their lifetime in the sport.
I also have a friend who orders the largest size available because he just displays them in their box.
RSalas, I envy your being able to throw a 300 with your Dad present. My Dad is also gone, but by father-in-law happened to be present when I threw my first, and he was so excited he (forgot) and wore his bowling shoes home... Snow and all!

I shot my first 300 a month after my father passed. On the 8th frame I told a teammate I was going to shoot 3...I wear my ring on the anniversary day only..

My last 300 game came in april of this year and it was the first one my father got to see. I gave him the ring when it arrived in the mail last week.

Yeah, the only jewelry I wear is my wedding ring. Anything other than that is excessive.
-
If you want to wear your ring wear it. The only bowling ring I wear is the PBA 300 ring I shot in 1987. And I wear a watch I got for Bowler of the year for the Greater St. Louis Bowling Assc. in 2006.
-
I have a few different bowling rings and wear them usually at functions or dinners. Most of the time I wear my TCBA National Champion ring and my Dallas City Champion ring. Everything else stays in the drawer.

I don't often wear Jewelry. When I do, I usually wear my gold 800, but sometimes my silver 300. I have several grandchildren and my goal is to give each one a ring when I die. Wearing them is bragging...sure. About what you have done, not what you are going to do. Once I got that through my head, it doesn't bother me to wear them when I bowl. The only time I wear more than one is when I go to a kids tournament and I want to show them what they can do. Inspiration, I hope.

Last year's rings were so cheap and cheesie looking. I would never put on such a crackerjack ring. Seems like they are getting cheaper looking every year.
-
I have several rings and it seems that they get larger after every 300. I dont order any thing extra just the basic ring. But everyone that arrives in the mail are different and larger than the previous. I dont wear them much but I'm not a jewerly guy who needs bling to feel good.

;D What a tribute. That's neat....!

If you arent going to wear them then why get them? If you get a ring, wear it. If not, then get a plaque.
-
I've built a shadow box/egg crate type display that I put the rings in.
It takes less room than the plaques do.
-
When i shot my first 300 i wore it for a month or so but after that i never wore it again. I am not a jewerly fan but i would say wearing it is not so much bragging but the hard work you put in to achieve it.

Rings take up less space than a plaque does.
-
I wear one or the other old style 300 or 800 rings on bowling day. Other than that, I wear my new style siladium 300 because I need to get my college ring re-sized. Almost fits but a little tight.

On this note, after a certain point, why continue to collect USBC honor score trinkets at all? How many rings, watches, and plaques do you collect before they simply become another item to store in a box?
For my last 800 and last two 300s, I checked the donation box on the submission form. I've been contributing to 'Susan G. Komen for the Cure', but there are other options available.
Just be aware that you do have choices.
-
The only jewery I wear is a wedding band, 10 honor rings sit in their boxes in a sock drawer, over the past 2 years I have not taken any awards I have earned.
-
Never worn them, never will. It is an accomplishment for many, but in this day and time it isn't what it was by any means. I like the ring more then the plaque, but they will end up in the same place. A small display in my office/spare bedroom where I keep my bowling gear.

You obviously haven't seen what you get if you shoot more than 1 300 in a year. The award looks like it was ran off on a copy machine.

I got an 11 in a row in a summer league 2 years ago that looked like it cost more in shipping then in production. It was a sticker attached to a thin 6"x8" piece of balsa wood that was maybe 1/4" thick. I figured at that rate, next time if you shoot anything you would get an email congrats along with a small post on their facebook page or something. Maybe a coupon to Benningans or a pack of gum.

Out of the 7 rings I have, I have given all but one to family.
-
I think the only bowling rings I ever wore were my first 300/800 from when I was in the junior leagues, back then there was some prestige involved in them. I've given some away to family in the past as well. The rest of them I have in a curio cabinet with the rest of my bowling stuff.
Our local USBC has far better upper tier awards. For any series over 825 you receive a nice crystal award and for high series in the state for the year you receive a nice crystal pin.
