I just had a wicked drilled today, and even though the grip is very solid on it, it makes my tornado TPS (90 dollar spare ball lol) feel a little short.

A little history on me...My first fingertip was a standard grip, when i was 12/13 years old.  I then got the track flare drilled extended, and to this day i still love the ball (8 yrs).  I got a relaxed fingertip Zone, then a few years after a standard messenger.
I knwo that's a lot of different grips, but I finally dug the track out one day when I was struggling, and shot 460 or so for 2 games, and went and got my zone plugged and redrilled for an extended grip.  the wicked is extended, and as we speak the messenger is being plugged and redrilled for extended.

My question is, how touchy are we about our grips?  Even though all 3 balls are extended grip (zone, tps, wicked), I can tell a slight difference in all 3.  I don't think it actually hinders performance, but for a few shots after i pick up another ball, it feels odd.

anyone else this bad, or am i just really sensitive?

I do not have to worry about how touchy I am in feeling any difference, in any of my Saws.  This is not a worry because Doug Sterner has drilled all of them, and Pchee and anyone else that has trie my equipment has said, "yours is the firts stuff I have tried, where each one feels exactly the same!"

Sometimes the cause of your problem is that the ball can move in the drill press, causing slight changes.  If I had your problem, I would feel it, as I am sensitive to differences, BUT thanks to Doug, I do not have to worry about that.

Every ball you throw should feel like a glove.
You should not have to squeeze the ball due to
short span or on the oppisite end hand up in
the ball.

All my stuff is very close. But I do have one ball that feels better than all the others. I just wish they all felt like that one!

Fit is SO important to me. Not just that their all the one size, but that they have been sanded out with a propor grit of sandpaper so they are nice and smooth. I cant stress how picky i am, luckily my ball driller is my coach and good mate, anyone else would go insane with me LOL.

good luck and high scoring

i haven't changed my span or pitches in 9 years----my equipment fits great. i am picky about the feel of the fingergrips and the thumb slug. i prefer the fingergrips to be slighty snug and the thumb has to be snug but still able to exit quickly.

I need to have the span and pitches the same from ball to ball, and I have an  excellent pro shop, so that is not a problem.

The problem I've had for a long time is getting the feel in the thumb hole the same.  The problem has not had to do with it's size or pitch, but more with skin texture issues relating to humidity and environmental factors.

As this season was starting, I decided to try Ron C's (Magic Carpet on this site) Magic Carpets in my thumb hole.  Problem solved!  I didn't even have an adjustment period--they just worked great immediately!

Magic Carpets are absolutely the greatest (and cheapest) bowling aid I've ever experienced.

Both guys in my Pro Shop say that even if you drill a bunch of balls EXACTLY the same, according to the specs and without changing the drill press etc. they may feel slightly different. I would have to agree. Some balls seem to squeeze the finger grips a little, making them feel tighter. My plastic spare balls always felt looser, even though all finger inserts are exactly the same brand and size, placed into the same sized hole.

And, I also agree about the Magic Carpets!!!!! Best bowling invention ever!

all my stuff is drilled the same, with a slightly shorter ring finger. I drill my span on both fingers the same. and my ball driller is the best, because he is ME!!

I am a "feel" person.  If the ball doesn't feel right in my hand nothing feels right through the entire approach.  That doesn't mean that every ball has to be drilled the same way.  I drill my own equipment but some of my stuff is longer than others.  I drilled them when I was still learning and they are a 1/16 off.  I just want the ball to feel good in my hand, if it doesn't then I can't throw it with consistantly.

I have relaxed my grip quite a bit over the past two years.  I went from 5 1/8 (both fingers) to 4 7/8.  Now I am down to 4 5/8, the shorter I go the harder I can rotate the ball and more accurate I am.  My average keeps rising, I can't complain.

I can't imagine bowling or playing golf without all the grips the same!

ONe of the funniest things I see on this site is when people want to know what the spans are on used balls.  Oh only an 1/8 long, I'll take it.  Oh, only a 1/4 short I'll take it!  It's either dead nuts for me or I, make it that way when I get it.

The only reason I can imagine having different spans or pitches between balls is that one wants to try them in practice.  Or if in competition one wants to bowl poorly.

REgards,

PS when I golfed I had all my clubs the same diameter grips at the top of grip and five inches down where the bottom hand went and same style grip.

They were all on dead straight down the center of the club and except too.
One the 3 wood had the grip rotated maybe 1/32 of an inch off center to the right(I was a right handed golfer). I hit a hard driving draw with this club, that rolled to the cup.  The 4 wood had the grip rotated about 1/32 of an inch to the left and with this club I hit a rising stopping long fade that would bite.

These were accidental grip placements but worked great!

Grip matters a lot!
