I totally agree with avabob here...depends on what you are bowling on.

THS leagues....old stuff is more than enough. My 3-D Offset is still more than enough ball for the Great Wall most of us see weekly.

SPORT league....depends on the style of bowler.....speed dominant then I say use newer. Rev dominant guys will benefit from the control of older equipment.

Tournaments.....typically newer equipment will dominate due to the increased carry you can see with the newer equipment.

It's definetly older for me, since I don't have a choice. The last NIB ball I had drilled was an Ultra Zone in 2009...Am getting a 16# Lucid from my summer league though :D

I am going with new or newer. I always get at least 2 - 3 new balls every year. I do have a couple of balls that will be 2 years old in a couple of months that do still kick, so I am keeping those for now. I sell my used ones for a minimal price. I personally know that the covers take a beating when you bowl as much as I do, even though I clean them regularly. I also get pretty good deals on new stuff, so I cant loose, then just win a jackpot and its paid for.

It is older stuff for me. I do own some newer equipment. A Defiant Edge that I love, an Outlaw; a Riot. (I guess that's relatively old too)

But my main balls these days are a 3-D Offset, a Brunswick Fury, two Sonic-X's, and an old Retro Roto Blue for the toasted stuff.

These balls are more than enough for the regular THS.

I recently took my Sonic-X's to a tourney in Indiana and won all events with them on a fairly flat 38' shot they had laid down.

WOW...

Was not expecting these results....
Most of you are able to strike with anything and really nobody uses the newest stuff on the market.. I cant afford to purchase new stuff and older equipment you actually know what you are getting because you have seen in on the lanes.. 

If on contract I would love to use the new stuff but cant afford to purchase something that doesnt fit my bowling style..

I buy a lot of the new stuff and its nice but not a must have. There is plenty of great new bowling balls at the mid and lower price points that are really great and people really over look them. People can afford a lot of the new equipment they just want the super hook monsters or bust kind of mentality for a new ball.

I'm actually going to start myself a bowling fund to buy new equipment ( i figure$20 a week won't even be noticeable). I'm gonna be starting with bottom line equipment that  is fairly cheap and older discontinued stuff. Probably first on my list is a Slingshot before they get too hard to find. I'll work my way around different brands from there :)
