To answer you question, no. Their are additives in the covers of pearl balls that solids just dont have. It allows the ball to bleed energy slower (because no ball retains energy, inside joke) hence, the better potential for backend reaction.
If you were to sand the VGN and the VGNP to the same surface, the solid would still be earlier than the pearl because of the cover additives. It is best to buy what fits your game, solids will be for earlier stronger midlanes, pearls will be for later transitions and backend reaction.
With that said you can get a similar reaction, but you are not going to turn one ball into another. Hope that answers you questions.
