From the management side, it's a matter of profit. How many bowlers do you think would sign up for a tough shot league? I'll bet it's not as many as you think. Now, to prepare the lanes for that group, the oiling machine has to be set on a different program. Then to get the shot right, the machine has to be run at least a dozen times before starting to oil that block of lanes. To go back to the regular program for the other lanes, reset the program and run another dozen blanks. And all this is assuming the house does have an oiling machine that is capable of changing the shot easily. If the tough shot league is an early league, the change back would have to be made before the second league begins. It's just too much trouble for a handful of bowlers. Now, if all the leagues would agree to the tough shot, no problem. -- JohnP
