Bowling tape question

I just bought a box of AMF Bowlers tape and founf the glue part to be too sticky and not very easy to remove without leaving a ton of residue. Do any of you know of another product that would be better? I would appreciate any help.

Exactly why I keep some of those wet naps that they give you in resturants sometimes in my bag.  Works great for getting tape residue off.  Not sure of a tape less sticky though.

The Master tape is similar.  I think it's the nature of the beast; you want that stuff to stick.

I had a piece of tape come undone in my Yeah Baby and used copious amounts of rubbing alcohol to get it out.  It's a pain but it's doable.

Goo Gone takes the tape residue out with a little rubbing.  Then use rubbing alcohol to remove the last of the Goo Gone.  --  JohnP

I've been using Ebonite tape and haven't had any issues with residue that took more than a few seconds to clean out with a little cleaner.

I've only ever seen that happen if you leave your balls in the heat.

But, John, you have to do this EVERY time to remove or put in a new piece of tape! NO!!!

I tried AMF tape and several others. I have been using Masters white textured tape easily and quickly for 8 - 10 years now.

well.. i've used amf, ebonite, master tape, etc.  i've found that the only time ive seen the tape get really gooey is when the ball is left in the sun, its really old, and vinyl slugs have been used.  through my experience i havent had a problem with any manufacturers tape when using urethane slugs (i use vise slugs ) and havent had any problems.  sometimes changing brands will help.

the ebonite and the brunswick are pretty clean when peeled off.  master and amf left alot of sticky residue.

As far as the sun issue. The balls are never in the sun or heat. I have kept the box of tape in a closet that never gets too warm. It was sealed in the original plastic. I have used Bowlers Tape for years and never had hardly any residue. Now this brand new six pack box of tape is bad. I will have to try Ebonite or Brunswick and see if I can get better results. Does anybody have a place they buy it that is reasonably priced?

Usually when I work with tape I'm removing all the tape in a ball and starting over for a customer.  I use one piece of white tape in the front of all my thumb holes, and usually replace it once per season.  So it's not much trouble to go the Goo Gone route.  It will remove residue that is otherwise very difficult to get out without using illegal solvents -- acetone, mineral spirits, etc.  Most folks that frequently add/remove tape use the black tape.  It doesn't leave much of a residue.  --  JohnP

You can go to bowling.com and get a 500 roll of ebonite tape for about $37 or a 100 roll or brunswick tape for $17.
