I wanted to share something that happened in the championship of our fall league. This happened in April, but I never got around to posting about it.

Anyways, the team we were bowling used a sub (good bowler, about 200 ave) for all 3 games while they had 3 rostered team members there to watch. I know atleast 2 were able to bowl because one bowled the first game and bowled bad and the other guy bowled the next 2 games. My team lost the last 2 games, mainly because I bowled bad the 3rd games.

There was nothing in the league rules against this, but there was nothing for it either. This issue was not even brought up by me, because I take things in stride. If I would have bowled better, we would have won.

I did not see how a team could use a sub when they had 2 roster bowlers present and able to bowl.

Have any opinions?

I really don't understand why leagues allow substitutes.

If you're a team of five, and you can't put three people on the lanes, then you forfeit.  If you have a 150 average bowler, you should not be allowed to have a 220 average bowler play in his place, especially on position round.

Why are you allowed to use substitutes to get around the common league rule that you must deduct 5-10 pins for a blind?  It doesn't make sense to me.

To add insult to injury, halfway through the season last year, the anchor man on my 3-man team fell off a ladder and broke his back; out for the year.  For the final 11-week session, we had to use a 150 vacant score, rather than the injured guy's 210.  League rules prevented us from using a substitute in the vacant's place, but teams were allowed to substitute a 220 average bowler for their "missing" 160 average player.  Where's the justice in that?

To go from what pnj said, in all of the leagues I have participated in, the ruling was, during any sort of roll off or position round, you could NOT use any subs. Also, if you use a sub, their average cannot be over 5 pins higher than the person he/she is replacing.
