Bowling this Month March 2004 edition
« on: March 23, 2004, 12:18:24 AM »
I have to say I think this issue is the most valuable EVER!!!

Most months, I'll find an article or two that I enjoy reading. Otherwise, there's some good information, but not a lot of new stuff. This month - WOW!
If you start out at the back like I usually do, the magazine opens (ends) with a column by Steve Sanders discussing his feelings and intentions with the PWBA.

There is an article by Bill Hall discussing how lane conditions break down, with some of the most informative graphics I've EVER seen.
There's a great article by Rolf Gauger on player torque and core torque.
An explanation by Denny Torgerson on when to use particles vs reactives.
The Hey Mo column is exceptional - discussing lane conditions, oiling patterns, and how they react TO LANE SURFACES!!!!
And as usual, a good column from Dr. Dean - but this month, his stuff is kinda overshadowed. Still useful, though!
A truly exceptional issue. Good job, BTM!!

I wish they would fire the first year graphic artist.

color coordination is terrible. what about color blind people?

they type setting is brutal. nothing flows. poor alignment.

very poor quality. if they don't change the format I will have to let my subscription run out.

the old review formatting is easy to go and thumb back through and find what you are looking for. I can scan the numbers quickly to see just how a ball stands up across lanes condition.

it's just flat out ugly.

That is one of the concerns we had was the cover of the magazine.  The front cover was a little strange for a front line magazine but I think the art work has become a trade mark.  We bought the back cover of the 2003 Ball Review Guide and sent them our copy.  They were really concerned about grey scale shading and how it came out.  I did like the cover altogether.  When I did see the magazine for the first time I was turned off by the cover.

From what I have been reading BTM has taken a lot of heat about content over the last few months.  It has to be a hard job keeping the right mix of information at the level of their readers.  Also there may be a little generation gap between readers. Old School and New School.  Still a very fine advanced bowling magazine.

Must be nice to have it already.  I'll be lucky to get mine before the end of the month.

I echo mumzie! This issue is a definite cut above previous editions.
