There is an article in the ABC newsletter
that talks about taps. Could someone explain
the offset the author is talking about.
Ex: when he is talking about a ball
entering the pocket with 4 degrees of entry angle
and an offset of 1.5" to 3.25" there is an 80% chance
of a strike while a shot at 3.75" offset has a 60%
chance of leaving a 10 pin.

Can anyone explain this to me??
In my jumbled mind I am thinking one thing but may be wrong
so I am asking.

So you are saying that a ball thrown from 12-15 with
NO or LITTLE swing would carry better than a ball
swung from 12-15 to 3-4?? or an even more extreme
angle?? On todays conditions around here it is HARD
to get anything to ping the 10s out of the rack
playing an inside line. maybe I need a stronger
drill or a more agressive ball no?

No, I don't think that is what that means.

The simple statistic above is that a ball that hits the pocket from
Board 18.5 (1.5 inches offset) to board 16.75(3.25 inch offset) has more chance of carrying than a ball that hits at board 16.25 or lower number board.

Assumed is that entry angle is constant at 4.5 degrees in this test.

All this is saying in layman's terms is that the pocket is from 16.75 to 18.5 board numbers. More on the 3 pin for righties or 2 pin for lefties leaves corners. Entry angle was not a factor in this test as it was assumed to be constant.

If you are not getting high enough in the pocket there are many possible adjustments.
