Bowling Videos: What Do You Use?
« on: March 23, 2004, 08:51:01 PM »
Okay all you bowling video makers out there, tell me what videocam you used to make your video.  I'm in the market for a cheap videocam that works okay in the typical low-light conditions you find in a bowling center.

I used my Sony CyberShot DSC-P10 today on "movie mode" to take a few videos of myself bowling.  The P10 is a digital camera with movie (and sound) capabilities.  I've had mine since last summer and absolutely love it.  Its small so you can carry it in your pocket and battery life is very good (rechargable NiMH battery).  I recommend getting a memory card with a significant amount of memory...I have two 128MB memory sticks, each one will hold about 6 minutes of video.  You can also get zoom and wide angle lenses and different filters to go with the camera.  Its very easy to use and downloading the pictures to the computer is very simple with the included cord/software or you can get a card reader for about $20 and it will make that process even easier.  When I got my camera its was around $499 but I've seen them as low as $399 at Circuit City (http://www.circuitcity.com/verity_search.jsp?productType=1&search=SONY+DIGITAL+CAMERA&qp=0&c=1&b=g).  You can get the Sony DSC-P8 for $299 and it has almost the same features as the P10 but isn't quite as small as the P10.
BTW, the videos turned out pretty good (the picture quality not the bowling...LOL).  Hopefully I can get those videos edited/posted soon so you can see for yourself.

Thanks, Turkey!

C'mon, all you budding Spielbergs, tell me what kind of camera you use, where you got it, and how much you paid.

Please, please, pretty please?

Peri, can you tell me the model number?  Seems like each mfr has about a gazillion different models of basically the same camera.

I can understand why the pics are darker than what we'd consider "normal", but are they still viewable?

Does your camera have an LCD screen that allows you to review the film on site, without further processing?

$299 is in my ballpark.  Who did you buy it from?

TIA!

I have an Olympus C-4000 digital camera.  I paid a little over 500 for it over a year ago, and the price as come way down on it since then.  I didn't buy it for video capability, but I have found that it works just fine for that, just no sound.  It takes remarkable pictures, and is VERY simple to use.  The video is all dependant on the size of the memory card you use.  The video is clear, and since there is no sound, you can use the zoom feature while shooting video.  Here is a link that reviews any digicam you can think of.  A wealth of information is available here.
