OK. This topic came to mind today when I turned on ESPN and saw they were broadcasting TABLE TENNIS. I cannot see why the network itself wouldn't pick up the needed money for the PWBA to function. In most cases the women were more entertaining than the men....and they were certainly much more personable.
Think of some of the things that ESPN (espn 2 also)broadcasts: Strongest Man competitions, billiards, cheerleading (which, for guy type reasons is cool
<<joke ), body building, college softball, table tennis, the great outdoor games, fishing....the list goes on and on. Now that we have somewhat of a list, before I even got into bowling at all I would rather have watched bowling than any of that crap. World Series of Poker is another one. I do not get the draw of watching people play cards. The excitement of poker is winning/losing your own money.
What can bowling do to get the viewers back? I know there are many posts like this one, but you see the competition bowling has (listed above), and bowling is a much more interesting sport in my opinion than anything listed above and I am probably forgetting a few. OH....the spellingbee....and the dog show.
One of the aspects of bowling that has totally been forgotten is the team concept. Does anyone find the Baker format as interesting as I do? I have only seen it on TV a few times, but every time I have seen it I could not turn away from the screen. I also think that the team format relates better to the average spectator......league bowlers.
What are your thoughts? I know there is going to be a bias here because this is a bowling site. But I am still interested in your views.
