Bowling with no Grips?

I have never tried bowling without grips, i know i would save alot of money without grips, instead of using my money on grips every 50 games.
How do they feel? What's the entire point of not using grips? what should i expect if i switched to no grips?

i went back and forth for a while, i feel like i lose the ball on many shots without inserts, like i have to work harder to get the ball to read the lane properly...i prefer inserts but you would save money...its just a feel thing for me...plus i could never get the holes to feel right, always felt to big down in finger hole even though i would drill hole smaller and work top out to fit larger part of finger...

thanks guys, ill try drill up a ball with no grips, i can always open the holes and throw in grips when i feel like it

I don't like no grips.

It hurts, burns the pads of my fingers, I get a lot less hand in the ball, not as consistent a transition...it was just an overall bad idea for me.

I respect your opinion but I find that maybe when you tried no grips the driller didn't get the pitches or something correct?

I personally won't ever go back to grips, i was a sap and didn't know any better so my first few balls I paid extra for grips. Later on I tried going to no grips and personally haven't had a negative. I really like the ability to use tape, get a more consistent feel ball to ball (drilled ovals FTW vs slightly to very worn grips).

The switch shouldn't change anything, you shouldn't see a change in revs or anything really noticeable, the only recommendation I have on your first try is to use a little extra bevel on the finger holes, after a while you can get used to them sharp but it isn't always recommended for the first try.

Until very recently I've always drilled my equipment for vacu grips, they were extremely comfortable. I've recently changed to no grips at all because at my point of release the softness of the grip really made me want to "grip it and rip it". Which in turn caused me to tug the shot more often than not. Since I've switched to no grips I feel like I clear the ball much quicker and cleaner. And the problem I had with grabbing the ball at release is gone...for now.

this may sound weird but i was more accurate and could stay in the pocket without inserts but accuracy and letting the ball do all the work isnt my game..(told ya it would sound weird)dont get me wrong, i have a target but try to get my ball to a certain spot down lane, guess im more concerned with breakpoint..im someone who wants or tries to make his ball strike rather than use accuracy and wts or cover on the ball...i cant really explain this but i wasnt able to do this as well without inserts...i didnt carry as well without inserts...im a feel bowler and only have that feel with inserts...guess its kinda like beer for me, you have to acquire the taste well i couldnt acquire the feel...think im getting delirious right now..lol

For years didn't use grips. Then went to a 30 minute clinic with Mo Pinel and he had grips put in. They felt great and ever since been using them. I seem to only be able to use the ovals as the others hang to longer on the fingers.
