Boycotting my AMF Bowling Alley.
« on: July 02, 2004, 06:54:21 AM »
I was bowling at the bowling alley last Saturday and my ball got about a 8 inch scratch on it from their equipment.  Their response when I showed them the ball was, "Oh... we thought that was fixed. That lane has been scratching a lot of balls lately."  So, they have me fill out a form to get it repaired, so I figure everything is good.  Well, here it is a week later and the ball was still in the same place they put it when the damage was done.  I just told them to give me the ball back and I would get it fixed on my own.  The response to that was, "Oh yeah, our Pro-Shop is kinda slow."  Keep in mind that my girlfriend and I go to this place 2 to 3 times a week and bowl 5-10 games each at $4.50 a game.  What customer service!!!

Anyone know how hard it is or how long for a Pro Shop to repair a scratch that long and fairly deep?  Can it even be repaired?

AMF sucks.  Always has and always will.  As far as the scratch goes, it depends on how deep it is.  I've had scratches all around a ball before and buffed them out with no problems.  On the other hand, I've had single scratches that were deep and never came out.  Good luck and good bowling.

Hey Jaf,

If the scratch is not real deep then it usually can be sanded down and buffed out.  If it's deep, it may require a 2 or 3 staged plug because only small sections of a ball can be plugged at one time(about 2.5-3 inches, unless they use clay).  Plug dams are only so big so it may take multiple plugs is what I'm trying to say.

I'm also in an AMF owned center, corporate doesn't see what goes on at that level and sometimes internal mgmt doesn't care.  I've also been yelled at before for not repairing a ball in time but it was never given to me and I was never notified that there was house damage up at the front desk.  AMF went thru and eliminated a lot of good staff to cut their overhead when they took over in the beginning and have been sinking ever since.  I believe they're on their 3rd ownership now?  Sorry to hear this happened to you....

Our Pro Shop is independently owned, so getting a ball repaired there is sketchy at best.

But dude, $4.50 per game?? That's f'ing nuts!  Try joining a league.  At least then you'll get games at half price.

Better yet, learn to bowl, get your card and get $1 per game pretty much anywhere you go.

your ball should have been fixed within 2-3 days.  It's on the proshop and the bowling alley.  You just can't blame tha alley.

Unless you are friends with the pro shop guy, you're gonna wait until he has absolutely nothing else to do.  Since you're not paying anything for the repair, he's probably getting somewhere between a little and nothing to fix your ball.

Thanks for the input everyone.  I picked up the ball as I stated and dropped it off with a Pro Shop that I frequently go to.  I dropped it off yesterday and they said it will be ready Monday.  I am going to try to get the bowling alley to reimberce me but I am not holding my breath.  Having my go-to ball now, instead of two weeks from now, is more important than worrying about whatever the cost to have it fixed is.
