Arsenal Assembly
« on: May 03, 2010, 01:28:44 AM »
When you assemble a 3 or 4 ball arsenal do you try to stick to the same ball company for all balls ? Is it best to stick to one company or do most have a mix of all companies in there bags. Looking to make some changes for next year and I'm just curious how this is viewed. Thanks Carlos

I've seen people tear it up in leagues/regionals using various companies.  I've seen the same using one or 2.  I used to use quite a few different companies but as of late only Storm and Roto.  I like what they offer me.

I have always had quite a bit of variety in my bag. Staying with one company all the time imo limits your game and in a worst case scenario can hurt you considerably if said company has a lull in their products.

Find stuff that works for you and then look for those parts in your main couple pieces but then mix it up when it comes to tournament balls and or condition specific equipment.

My view is that if you''re not a paid staffer, why would you stick with just one company? You may like the way a certain company''s equipment match your game but you might be missing out on a piece from a different company which would really match your game if you gave it a chance. My example from this past season would be the Freeze. I had never thought about trying a Columbia 300 until I got the recommendation from a Pro Shop employee who knows me and my game.

Personally, I would not limit myself to just one brand or manufacturing source. If you want to build an arsenal, you need different reaction types and utilities - and in some cases you find a special purpose piece just at one manufacturer, or a certain ball that offers promising specs for what you have in mind with it. While you certainly can build a single brand bag, I find that this limits options and chances to learn. The vast raneg of options might be overwhelming, though, it is a trade-off.

Beyond that, I'd start arsenal building one step earlier: thinking through what you actually want and need, and how several balls can compliment each other, so that cover a wide range of conditions with as few balls as possible/necessary, and/or have reaction options which offer a different approach even if two balls overlap a bit. Sorting this out first makes ball search and choice much easier. Have a plan!
