Even though a majority struggle (perhaps a reflection of true ability). I wish every tournament I bowled was like what i see at the ABC. Professionalism, Class, Challenging and whatever else you want to add. I have won my fair share and shot 750+ plus and lost by hundreds to some hdcp bowler who happens to shoot 700 that week with 250 pins? The Hoinke Classic is nearly impossible for a scartch bowler to win, and others are getting close. Perhaps regionals are the next stop? Not sure, just thinking out loud.

Your thoughts.....

i agree... i wont bowl anything but scratch tournaments now... it just doesnt pay for a bowler to be a "scratch bowler". There is just too much sandbagging and LUCK in these handicap tourneys.

I agree with everything each of you stated.

One question on the "luck" end of handicap bowlers in tournaments you were speaking about. The subject of Regionals being next came up. What if you were in the hunt to cash at a regional but get knocked out by a bowler that goes dead through the nose for a strike in the fill frame of the 10th? He throws a terrible ball, carries the junk, and you walk away empty handed. I believe that luck happens on every level.

Good point EX, however, while luck can get you places in handicap tournaments, luck can only get you so far during scratch events. While it may be heart-breaking to lose in the title match to someone who goes through the face and carries in the 10th, i'd be almost 100% sure that they didn't have that luck the ENTIRE tournament. Whereas with handicap bowlers, they get lucky one game and shoot 250-270, add their ridiculous handicap to it, and that's at least a 330 game.

Or like the Hoinke, 1006 needed to win (4 games) kind of hard for a scratch player to compete.

I had to reply because i almost got in a fight recently.I have been bowling in the n.a.b.i. tournaments in reno and i have done really well.Of all the tournaments they have me at a 170 avg.Thats what all the games ive rolled add up to.I then bowled in one a month ago and shot a 171,226,216,for a 613 scratch.One of the better scratch series that day. I also had a high hdcp.Which made me the #1 qualifier. After qualifing i noticed someone complaining about my avg.I simply told him that on the scratch league the avg. is the same im not sandbagging im having a good day.he then called me a lying son of a b&^%h.
I said he can stop acting like a d*ck about it.He charged at me got in my face and tryed to beat me up just for bowling good.I think that kind of bowler is very wrong and gives bowlers all over a bad rep. Ive beat people scratch in tournaments but lost because of hdcp.Only diff. is i didnt try to fight them after.I say if u dont want to lose to a hdcp. then bowl scratch.

When was the hoinke 1006 for singles? About three years ago, which was also the first year I bowled it, 1204 was singles. Yes, that's for 4 games. A supposed 170 bowler averaged 275 for 4 games. Yeah, I could see a true 170 bowler doing that.........With that being said, I'm once again headed out to the greater Cincinnati area in 2 weeks.

O, sorry missed a number, it was 1204, fingers got carried away. Still puts it out of reach for scratch. Shoot 4 300, come in 2d would really be demoralizing. May be why their numbers are dropping each year.

You are correct sir, it's becoming(or already is) a joke. I go to drink a few with the boys for a weekend. There is money to be made out there though. I go with the mentality that I probably won't make the board, but cashing for $1000 is definitely within reach.
