League heading in downward spiral this year

Well it looks like our league is going down for next year. Hearing that there are at least 2 teams quitting (maybe more), League Secretary/Treasurer quitting, President Quitting, and VP quitting. All NEXT Year. There was some personal issues with the officers and they now said they have had enough.

I would like to keep this league going. It used to be 20 teams a couple years ago. This year we have 17. Next year it looks like we could be 15 or less.

Right now its a mixed couple league and its 4 people to a team. Its 32 weeks.


Ideas I have:

I was thinking of cutting the weeks to 29 and allowing more than 4 people on a team. See if we can get new bowlers that might want to join a league but can't commit to an entire season. Allow members in Teams to sub for other teams as long as they are NOT bowling against their team.

Its basically a fun league with some competitive spirit (You are trying to beat the other team). Very little prize money. Most money that goes into the league is for a League Dinner at the end of the season.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

couple of things you might want to check on first.  What is the agreement with the center for length of season and size of league.  It is usually in the contract.  Can you actually find 15 more bowlers to increase the team sizes?  Also consider the amount of time an additional 2 bowlers per pair adds to the commitment.  Running a league is a lot of work if the center does not have people to help out.  If they do it should not be a problem.  Make sure you break it up into at least 2 halfs if not quarters that way teams that are at the bottom feel better when they get a new start.

I would keep it to 4 persons per team mainly because of the couples thing and nobody wants to be the fifth wheel.I would also recommend that you get some decent pot games going,that usually brings them in.keep the prize funds to a min and keep the fees low are another few things I can think of.
