I thought I'd be looking forward to the new season, but for some reason I'm really not. After bowling a PBA Experience league this summer, I wish I could keep doing that. Bowling on a house shot just isn't too much fun any more. Plus the attitude of the people in town doesn't exactly help. When your nightly score depends more on how well you carried rather than how well you threw the ball, that's just really disenchanting. A handful of the better bowlers in town bowled in the PBA league too, and they're all chomping at the bit to get back on a house shot . . because for some reason, all that matters to people in town are the scores they can put up, they don't care about good bowling at all. They don't have much discerning taste. They don't like challenging themselves with things like the PBA league. It's shaping up to be a very boring year. Show up, throw the ball, shoot 700, go home . . wash, rinse, repeat. I mean, when you shoot 250 and are disappointed because it's not 260 or 270, what kind of fun is that? Or when you get beat by handicapping sandbaggers . . Why can't we get bowling back to where golf is? People like golf because it's challenging, but if we took bowling back to there, people would quit.
