I've been bowling at LandPark Lanes in Sacramento, Ca for about 10 years or so. I'm getting tired of lanes breaking down every freak'n week. I bowl second shift and we never ever bowl on time. Either slow bowlers before us, or lanes break down which is happening more often. The worst part, one mechanic is on duty and if he's on lunch break, we wait a long time to get service.
When multiple lanes breaks down, or need a re-spot, or whatever it may be, we wait. We wait, we wait, we wait, and wait..... I'm just getting tired of it. It's not even half the season and I fell like leaving. But, my teammate are important to me so I'll stick it out.
I may suggest we move the league else where, but if they don't plan to move, then I'll look into going to another house and league.
I thought that Land Park had closed down.. I knew that Alpine Valley did, but thought Land Park had also closed up shop when they force the PSO out of the house.
Question.. is it a true AMF house? meaning, pinsetters? I ask because I've never stepped foot in it, mainly because I've heard how bad the place has been, even before the BowlMor buyout.
In all honesty, I'm really worried about the bowling scene here in town, as it appears the entire town is in dire need of renovation.
Mardi Gras and Rocklin appear to be holding their own, but once again, Bowlmor. They don't appear to have lost most of their bowlers, as they are the two biggest houses in the city (in terms of number of lanes, and Mardi Gras allegedly has the biggest youth leagues).
Fireside, while a good house, is showing its age. Steve Cook could definitely renovate and make it better (IIRC, the last big purchase they made were for the lanes from Crestview, and they are holding up well). As the PWBA has their tour stop here, was Leanne's home, and produced Amanda Fry, this is definitely the place for bowlers.
Country Club... desperately needs work, outside of just being a family fun center for laser tag. Their biggest saving grace is that at least they are treating their league bowlers well. But the place looks like it came out of the 60s (because it did).
Strikes (Elk Grove and Rocklin)... too far out to even want to try.
Lake Bowl and Capitol Lanes definitely are catering to their local residents, but again, not much to offer that I've seen.
Now, I'm more than likely being harsh because I came into this area from Las Vegas so I've been spoiled, but when I see alleys closer to the bay area (read: Dublin, San Jose), Portland, Medford, and even way out in
Jefferson Northern California, like Weed and Yreka holding their own, I have to wonder what the hell is going on here that is stifling not just the game, but the physical attractiveness (read: look, feel, performance) of the alleys in this area. I mean, you can't keep up with a modern game using 50 year old equipment.
xrayjay, when do you bowl? I may stop by just to see how the house looks.
