Brunswick Balls vs Storm Balls
« on: January 06, 2005, 01:20:16 PM »
On todays balls, what is the difference between what a Brunswick Ball does and what a Storm Ball does? In other words, at one time Storm had the reputation of making their balls have length and breaking very hard/sharp on the back end and Brunswick had the reputation of balls reving earlier in the midlane with less length and an earlier hook but not as hard of hook as Storm.

Was this true and does it still remain that way today? I'm just curious. I currently have a 3 ball Storm arseneal in the X-Factor line and love all 3 balls.....I've heard so much about the new Brunswick Impluse Zone, that after talking to BrunsRicH and Tenpinitis and a couple of other people on this site, I just had to try one. I'm supposed to get it drilled tomorrow afternoon and was just curious ahead of time how it will compare to Storm on the back end.

That may have once been true, but today, no company is no different than any other in regards to length, etc.  Brunswick has some early rollers, but it has balls that will have good length and backend.  Vice versa for storm.  I think we can safely disband any real stereotypes about ball companies.

As for the impulse zone, I doubt you'll be disappointed in the ball.

Brick,

I just finished my third year of being on Storm Staff.  I am not re-signing with them because of the very reasons that you mentioned.  I wanted to throw some Brunswick and Hammer stuff.

For leagues, medium/dry lanes, Storm stuff is awesome, probably the best, specially for your more average style bowlers, medium to slower ball speeds.

For me, PBA regionals were very tough the last year or so.  I have been working on my swing/release to be smoother, and not grind the ball into the lane.  This has picked up my ball speed consistently, THANKS CAROL NORMAN!!!  The PBA lane conditions use Brunswick oils, with there new stuff being pretty slick, and not breaking down.  The PBA adjusted the patterns using more units of this slicker oil, generally speaking.  The combination of the above resulted in that I had a hard time with the go longer Storm balls.  I had a hard time making them read the lane in the right place, not quitting, and carrying.

I don't fault Storm, I realize they can't send 3-4 of every ball they come out with, but I was often drilling that many "trying" to compete.  I still use my Storm stuff the most at home, averaging 236, 226, and 215 in three leagues in three houses, among the top 2-3 in average in all three.  It's not the balls there, they are great.  Those Hot Rod Pro Stocks are nasty!!!

My point is, for me especially, I need some stuff that hooks earlier.  The Inferno balls are so good, and I like a few of the Hammer balls also.  Gonna try some Track stuff soon too, I got an Animal, it HOOKS!

Sorry so long, hope this helps ya....

I like the smell of the Storm balls, and the staff is knowledgable and super smart to deal with. A true marketing machine!

However, Brunswick equipment has a leg up on anything out right now. Everyone is trying to make their own version of ACTIVATOR, and all the while, Brunswick takes the coverstock and puts it on their Zone line... BRILLIANT!

I have stuff from several companies, but mainly Brunswick (with Lane 1 thrown in), and a couple of storm balls.
The big thing Brunswick has going for it over EVERY OTHER MANUFACTURER is longevity. I have NEVER had a Brunswick cover die. I've retired a speed zone, and just today retired a Smash/R - both probably have been baked 3-4 times, resurfaced 2 or 3 times, and probably have at least 700 games on them. They are still going strong - but they are so battle scarred that I decided they needed a well deserved rest.
My deuce is a great ball, but I noticed serious diminished performance after about 70 games. Sorry - but at around $200 for a drilled, gripped, and slugged bowling ball, $3 a game is too hard to swallow.

Mumzie I can't believe that. Not to say I don't believe you.
I have a Deuce with close to 200 games on it and it still reacts just like it did out of the box. I have never had a ball die. Not counting C300 trash.

Thanks to everyone for your response. I used to be a Brunswick person for 15 years. (from 1980-1995) Hadn't tried Brunswick until last year when the Inferno came out. I tried one and the ball wouldn't work right for me so I sold it. I found out later that part of the problem was me and part because of how the ball was drilled. I now wish I had kept it. Any how, I wanted to thank all who replied here and even though I felt I was doing the right thing you have boosted my confidence that I am doing the right thing.
