Brackets
« on: December 11, 2009, 02:32:02 AM »
For those of you who either run brackets or partake in brackets on a league night, what is the typical cost and payout?  Also how much does the guy running the brackets take for each bracket?  I want to compare the typical price to what we pay without influencing the results by posting what we pay.

thanks!

Typically we pay $5.00 per bracket.

Eight people in the bracket.  ($40.00/bracket)

Payout is $25 for first place and $10 for second.

The other $5 is kept by the bracket operator.(for a couple of years the money was added to the league prize fund, and the lg. paid the person who ran the brackets.)

i DO NOT agree with adding that to the prize fund, thats taking money away from the people that bowl in brackets and giving it to people that dont bowl in them. I also dont agree with the person thats running the bracket from taking 5 dollars of the top of each bracket, unless your running 10+ brackets its not that hard.

Most brackets around these parts are 5$ a man, 8 men a bracket.  Winner gets $30, second gets $5, and the $5 goes to the bracketologist.

I don't care if they take off the top, but what pizzes me off is people don't realize this and STILL tip him.  Please, the guy is making a ton of cash each night, no need to put more on top of that.

The best brackets I've seen were at a house I subbed:  $35 for first, $5 for second, and the bracketeer kept nothing.  I tried to give him a tip once, but he said no and was like, "You earned it."  It was definitely something to behold.

It might not be hard but it is time consuming and requires you stay till the end of the night.

Ours are typically $5 brackets $25 for 1st $10 for 2nd

lsf....

basically it was the league running the brackets and they just gave the money back to the league. At that time there was approx 40 people in the brackets which amounted to about 1/3 of the league.

We used to have the typical 5 dollar brackets with 5 to the guy running them. 25 for win and 10 for 2nd.

Now we have a new guy doing them. He's super nice, great bowler and a great guy. He made then 3 dollars. So 8 x 3 = 24. 17 for a win, 6 for 2nd, and he only keeps one per bracket. Also he uses a software so you dont get those type of guys I've run into at tournies that dont use one and I get one guy 3 times in the first round with me only participating in a 3rd of the brackets run. I consider us lucky to have this guy around.

$5 brackets
8 men
Payout $25, $10.  bracket guy gets 5

$5 cut the field.
as many people as possible.
after first game field is cut in half
after 2nd game field is cut in half
payout after 3rd is top 3.
usally pays $35, $10, $5.

Games & Set
$5 per game
$5 for set.
Payout for high game in game 1,2,3
payout for high set.
usually pays $30-$40 bucks per game, and $30-$40 bucks high set.

than we pot bowl after league.....

Blind Draw Doubles
$5 per man
payout is to top combined score $40-$50..so split is $20-$25
also have a $5 per man pot going for high game

or

just your basic pot bowling....
$5 per man
payout is to top two high scores

by the way our brackets were 5 bucks, 30 for winner 10 for 2nd, most of the time though the two people bowling split and both took 20.

In most leagues around here brackets are $5. How much is taken out depends on the league and who's running them. Either $3 or $5 is taken out. If $3 is taken out 1st is $25 and 2nd is $12. If $5 is taken out 1st is $25 and 2nd is $10.

I'm also in a league that runs some $5 and $3 brackets. The guy running them takes $3 out of all brackets. The $3 bracket payout is $15 for 1st and $6 for 2nd.

$3.00 per bracket

$15.00 for 1st place
$5.00 for 2nd place
$4.00 to the house

And we have around 25-30 brackets.

This is interesting.  Question - when you make the second cut and to the top three is it based on that single game or the total score for the two or three games?  --  JohnP

I do brackets for our league.  I keep one spot as my fee.  From others I''ve talked to that participate and run brackets in other houses, that''s normal.

Payout is 5 spots for first, two spots for second, one spot for me.

For handicap, it''s $2, for scratch it''s $5.  I typically run two handicap and one scratch in a night.  I''d do 10 brackets a night if I could fill ''em, but they''re just not popular enough.

I also run the card game.  For my trouble, I play for free.  If I win, I make money, if I don''t, I''m not out.  In the past, I''ve won pretty infrequently.  I pay for the cards out of my pocket and I chase people down for hands and money.  Same for brackets.

I do it to keep my bowling costs down.  I typically bring in $9 per night from brackets, that covers more than half of my lineage.
