Brand loyal?
« on: February 21, 2013, 11:53:04 AM »
I would like to here some opinions on brand choices? Do you stick with one company / brand or do you use any brand? I know staffers have to use only the brand they signed with, but I am not a staffer an I choose to use ROTO GRIP. My reason is easy, I do match up well with their equipment. I like the way it rolls and hits. so I am sticking with them. I don't feel that I am missing out on other company's equipment because I am confident that the choices I am making are the best for me at this time, so why experiment? whats your take?

I'd like to be loyal to Hammer (and for the most part, I am), but with all the accolades for new equipment, I dabble in Storm, Roto, and Track, too.
In the bag:

Roto Grip Magic Gem
Motiv Primal Shock
Hammer Ocean Vibe

I'm not brand specific.  I choose certain balls to fulfill my arsenal.

I do it because I like to know where certain pieces fit. I can ball up and down with more confidence that way. Every company has a complete arsenal, so you can't go wrong with doing it.

Ive been fortunate to have been on a couple staffs before, so I can see the benefits of both.

Totally a personal preference, person by person thing. While it is nice to pick and choose between companies, finding balls that work together designed by different companies becomes more difficult, whereas if you stay with one brand and they design balls the right way, there tends to be alot less gaps between balls. Just my take.

This is just me but I am NOT brand loyal.  If I were on payroll I would be.

I tend to break my arsenal down to 5 total balls (including a plastic)

1)  Something Strong (usually put a 1000 - 2000 surface on it)
2)  Something Medium to Strong (usually with a little surface but not too much)
3)  Something Medium to Mild (Usually with some grit underneath but a shine on it)
4)  Something REALLY weak (Shiny)
5)  Plastic for spares

Current lineup is:

Pursuit-S @ fresh 2000
Innovate @ fresh 2000 + used 2000
Victory Road @ 2000 + Snake Oil
MoJave w/big shine on it

I'm probably going to add an IQ tour pearl @ a fresh 1000 with polish just to fill it out a bit.

For each spot I try and find a ball that gets good reviews by a wide spectrum of bowlers.  I've not found it exceptionally difficult to have a nice "ball down" progression over the years by throwing various brands.....

Usually if I cannot find it with the 4 balls I'll have on me, i'm probably not going to and i'm likely throwing it awful.

For tournaments where I know the pattern (maybe one extreme or the other) or PBAX, I can rotate a piece or two off the rack at home.

I'm not bringing my MoJave to bowl on shark  :P  :P

I tend to be a little of both. I find that Storm equipment works really well for me. So I have more Storm balls than any other brand in my bag. But I will try other brands to fill holes, or get a reaction shape I am looking for as well. Besides plastic, of the other 5 balls I carry, 3 are Storm. The only thing I have not found in Storm, for me anyway, was a good heavy oil ball. That may change with the Sync though.

Jorge, check the Lucid out, Ive punched several out for customers and it is a very nice rolling hvy oiler, and it seems to be a different reaction shape from the Nano's...

Track has worked best for me. I'm not deliberately loyal, but I always end up with a Track piece. I also buy a lot used from a friend who is a ball whore. We have the same span so I get to try all kinds of stuff haha. I have 4 Track balls and a Roto Grip Mars. Everything I've thrown from Roto is great in my hands, but price is a big factor in why I buy things. Used Track ball already drilled for my span, or a brand new Roto Grip for 3X the price?

I throw mostly 900 global but i do mix in some storm products. I use storm to get my more "flippy" reactions andi can cover just about everything else with 900Global....

I am for 99% of what I use because of how well the equipment has worked for me. I still try other things when it catches my eye and usually end up with mixed reviews.

I think the benefit of it is matching desired reactions from high performance down to create an arsenal. When you mix and match manufactures that can be a little harder. There are a lot of great companies to choose from.

Recently I've been brand loyal to 900 Global/AMF cause I tried a few of their products and liked how they rolled for my game. But it won't stop me from trying another companies product if I want to. I guess I have the mentality of a "shirt" staffer like when Mike Aulby used Columbia 300 balls on tv while wearing a Brunswick shirt. Ideally I'd like to try every ball company...financially it would be extremely tough but it's always nice to dream.

I've recently dabbled in Seismic, as Hammer's skid/flip strength has gotten to be too much for my style. Matched up well so far, so am probably going all Seismic.
In the Bag:
Seismic Evo Hybrid
Seismic Evo Pearl
Seismic LynX
Seismic Axion
