This is just me but I am NOT brand loyal. If I were on payroll I would be.
I tend to break my arsenal down to 5 total balls (including a plastic)
1) Something Strong (usually put a 1000 - 2000 surface on it)
2) Something Medium to Strong (usually with a little surface but not too much)
3) Something Medium to Mild (Usually with some grit underneath but a shine on it)
4) Something REALLY weak (Shiny)
5) Plastic for spares
Current lineup is:
Pursuit-S @ fresh 2000
Innovate @ fresh 2000 + used 2000
Victory Road @ 2000 + Snake Oil
MoJave w/big shine on it
I'm probably going to add an IQ tour pearl @ a fresh 1000 with polish just to fill it out a bit.
For each spot I try and find a ball that gets good reviews by a wide spectrum of bowlers. I've not found it exceptionally difficult to have a nice "ball down" progression over the years by throwing various brands.....
Usually if I cannot find it with the 4 balls I'll have on me, i'm probably not going to and i'm likely throwing it awful.
For tournaments where I know the pattern (maybe one extreme or the other) or PBAX, I can rotate a piece or two off the rack at home.
I'm not bringing my MoJave to bowl on shark
