Tough situation in league...how would you handle?
« on: March 05, 2009, 01:04:20 AM »
I have a guy in my men's league.  I only offer the following facts to not be in judgement of the guy, but to only enhance the problem I, as an officer, have.

He is not a good bowler, about a 115 average.  He is usually the guy who we have to place on new teams that bring in 3 guys.  Inevitably, that team will "find" a 4th guy and we have to scramble to find "John" a new team.  "John" always pays on time, is never in arrears, never causes controversy in any way, in fact he just bowls and sits in the chair and keeps pretty much to himself.  He is essentially an officers' dream.

But we think he is sickly.  There are some obvious signs that are apparent that I won't divulge out of respect for a good man.  But last week was "uncomfortable" for us to say the least.  Last week was the 3rd time in 5 weeks that "John" urinated on himself and all down his leg, and this time he consequently compromised the approach, the scoring area and seating area.  The other instances weren't that bad.  He then finished the first game, took his shoes off and fell asleep in the chairs behind the pair.

His teammates came up to me to inform me of another "episode".

I really don't know what to do.  I think I and the other officers should have a talk with him, but we don't know where to start or what to say.  I want to tread lightly, for obvious reasons, but ultimately he could be compromising our bowlers' safety.

Help..............

Agree, explain the situation as gently as possible and I don't think you can give any options but to ask him to resign.

Perhaps if you find out more about him, talk to him of course, but maybe if you can find out if he has any family, talk to them about it as well, and maybe by talking to them they can get him to resign or get him some medical help.

As a league officer you love guys that do pay their dues on time and just enjoys being there without all the drama that some bowlers bring to the lanes with them

Yes, if at all possible talk to his family in a loving manner.  They may not realize he has gotten worse, people have ways of hiding that from family.  He may not be taking medications he needs.  --  JohnP

He just may be pushing senior, but other than some physical "things", he looks damn good........

Have your smallest female bowler take him out behind the dumpster and kick the living sh!t out of him.  He won't be back anytime soon.
