Breaking a slump
« on: September 16, 2004, 02:12:44 PM »
Lately I can't seem to throw the same ball twice in a row. I'm all over the place. Even more than usual . Needless to say I'm not scoring well. I'm a good ten pins below my Summer average. Anyone have any tricks to help get themselves consistent when they're struggling?
Thanks.

I've been having the same problem.  I found I was getting to the line too quick.  I slowed my feet down, and now my accuracy is up.  I can't say this will help you, but it seems to have solved one of my many problems.

deep breath, count your steps, and follow-through. slumps come from bad execution,..back to the basics.

Exactly!  Follow these steps and then shoot a nice 700 series and all your problems go away.  They do for me anyhow.

don't think that the problem will be solved by putting in alot of practice. that will just result in burnout. it is also hard to fix your physical game when you are consantly switching balls trying to find an answer. stick to your most versatile ball and sub instead of open bowl. Good practice scores do not tranlate to league or tournament scores.

Going back to basics is a good idea but, you may have a flaw(s) in your game that you cannot feel because you are doing it consistently.
Find a good coach and have him/her watch you bowl and go from there.

Sometimes you can find the flaw(s) yourself and fix them if you do know enough about good execution and mechanics. But, I'd find someone knowledgeable to take a look at what you are doing.

I'll stone no head pins before their time.

It's not so much that I'm missing my mark as that I'm not getting the ball out on the lane the same way. I'll short arm one shot and it wont project far enough down the lane. It looks good at the arrows but breaks early and goes high usually leaving the 3-6-10. I then overcompensate on the next shot and leave a 2-10 split bt throwing the ball too hard and projecting it too far down the lane. I think I just need to chill out.
