Yeah, I can see all the bluehairs sitting on my board voting YES for this in Wichita.

I know. Incredible - sign of desperation, I guess...
Does this mean you all get to wear skirts to bowl???
Hey - I know - the guys will be able to bowl the Queens tourney, too!!!
Cool.

Wow. I just read the article at the link Curse posted.
It's nothin' but a power grab... If no one votes in favor of the SMO, well, we'll apply to be the SMO, 'cause after all, we allow men...
Geez.

I must be missing something .. why would men join the WIBC? From a LEAGUE point of view .. there aren't that many LEAGUES .. from a COST perspective I THINK the WIBC is more EXPENSIVE .. perhaps on a PROFESSIONAL level there might be some PLUS that I don't see .. why would this be beneficial? .. SAWBONES says that this makes it clear that the WIBC is desperate .. HOW? I wonder what the justification for this move is?

I understand your points .. but since they are looking for SINGLE MEMBERSHIP .. do you think that maybe JIM DRESSEL is trying to get MEN & WOMEN to join the WIBC so that HE will be in control? .. then the ABC/YABA people will have to SEE IT HIS WAY since he will have the majority membership! Sounds like a good move .. IF HE CAN MAKE IT ATTRACTIVE TO MEN! He might be taking the first step of a SMART STRATEGY .. time will tell!

What the WIBC and ABC need to realize is that along with the dwindling numbers in membership is the fact that the somewhat archeic boards that exist at the local levels think they are driving the bus when it comes to league play in their community. The SMO is an attempt by the proprietors to take an active stance in what is happening with bowling in its communities.
YABA jumped on the bandwagon as fast as they did for one simple reason: YABA supports the future of the sport. It is the governing organization for the youth in bowling. It agreed to the SMO originally created and proposed because it has the backing of proprietors across the country.
Contrary to popular belief (and I wish I could remember who said this) "Proprietors are no longer interested in sitting in the back of the bus...We own the bus"
The SMO will allow centers to have more say, which, if you come from a community like mine, is desperately lacking.

It will stop the griping by men who resent that women have been allowed to sanction ABC for years and they are not allowed to sanction WIBC. The men, if this goes through, can pay $31/year to dual sanction.

No big deal if you read the fine print - it's a measure that would have to be approved by the WIBC delegates and is only intended as a contingency IF the single membership organization fails. I can't see the ladies letting the men come into their tournaments and walk off with most the money.

If the women delegates vote to accept men (which I seriously doubt will happen), do you think they will allow the male members to bowl in the WIBC tournament? Queens, Senior Queens, local championships, etc? This too, I seriously doubt will happen. So where do they think the men members will compete? Seems to me this is just another ridiculous scheme from Greendale? I wonder when the men and women sanctioned bowlers are going to grow tired of this baloney and throw out the entire current leadership of both ABC and WIBC?

No guy in his right mind would want to follow a squad of bluehairs dropping Black Beauties in front of the foul line leaving black skid marks for the next squad to stick on and fall over from. Been there, done that
