Breaking Wrist Back
« on: June 14, 2009, 03:47:34 AM »
So recently I've been in a weird funk breaking my wrist back.  I noticed it when I first got video taped for a lesson.  Right after my push-away, I don't let my arm as a whole drop down, I break my wrist back THEN proceed with the arm-drop.  I sort of self-correct at the top of my backswing, but it's back when I release.  So to remedy this problem, my coach had me try out a few different wrist braces and I liked the feel of one.  It helped keep things in line the whole time, and was nothing but good for me until this week.  I've noticed that no matter how tight I put the darn thing on, I've stretched the brace so that I actually have some wiggle room to bend my wrist back.

Have any of you had a similar situation?  If so, how did you go about fixing this for good?

If it helps, this is the wrist brace that I got:  http://www.bowling.com/products/mongoose-lifter.htm  I love it, but perhaps something like this is in order?  http://www.bowling.com/products/robbys-revs-ii-right-hand.htm

I have both plus a Moro Pro Release (extended one).

The Mongoose Lifter is very comfortable, but too flexible and offers very little support. The Robby Revs II offers good support as does the Moro Pro Release.

I'm a fan of both the Mongoose Equalizer and the Lifter. They can do what most bowlers need without all the bulk of the "bionic appliances".

Try pressing your index finger against the ball at set-up and during the arm swing. By doing this it will help hold that wrist square.

Kind'a defeats the the whole purpose of a wrist brace. Here is a very good one that also helps doing what Notclay advises as well as increasing side turn.

Next time I see my coach, I'll see if I can get digital copies of the videos.  That's not a bad idea.
