Bridge cracked
« on: December 28, 2009, 12:23:13 PM »
My bud gave me a Cell for free, and it has a cracked bridge. I plan on plugging it and redrilling it completely different. What will me pro shop guy do about the cracking? Will he drill it out as well and plug it?

My other question is what would you call a "weak drilling"? I think Im going to put a weak drill on this ball but not sure what is weak? Is 5X5 considered weak? My PAP is 4" over 7/8" up.

Your driller will drill out the cracked bridge and plug both fingers and the bridge together.  As far as a weak drill I'd say anything 5 1/2" or over pin to PAP or anything 1 1/2" or under pin to PAP, and if it's a ball with an asymmetric core put the MB near the track.  --  JohnP

sir
You want weak, or a ball for a bowler with a lot of hand...

Put the pin over the MF and the MB in the track...

My old Vapor Zone was drilled just like this, infact the MB was right in the middle of my track (very high tracker) and the ball rolled very well. Was very predictable and versitle.

And if that bowler has PAP dimensions of 3 1/2" X 1" with 15 degrees of axis tilt you'll have a strong ball.  --  JohnP

It's likely poor drilling technique.  If there is enough distance between the finger holes combined with lateral pitches of at least 3/4" combined (usually 3/8" lateral pitch on each hole), the bridge will rarely crack.

Causes of cracking:  pin too close to a hole, too narrow a bridge, incorrect pitches used causing the holes to come together at the bottom, failure to bevel the hole, too much super glue near the top of the grip.  --  JohnP
