UPDATE .....What weight should I use....15 or 14
« on: February 18, 2009, 11:41:32 PM »
Recently, I posted a topic what ball weight I should use...I thank you for the feedback.....

UPDATE...UPDATE....UPDATE

I drilled up a 14lb Brunswick Smash Zone 45 x 5 x 45...small weight hole on PAP...the first couple of balls went past the break point..I softened the speed and my practice session went good...Took the ball out in league...

247 (open in the 10th)
226 (lane transition)
290 (moved 2 brds left)

763...highest series this year...ball motion, hitting power, same...only difference was if I swung it out..10 pin...missed inside, ball held due to increased speed...I am going to drill an Ultra Zone next...Thank You...

congrats. i've been using 14# since i had 4 shoulder surgeries on bowling arm. that's the hardest thing i had to adapt to also, keeping my speed down to let the ball rev up. occasionally i'll over throw it and it'll skate by the break zone but if i just relax the shoulder (which is a work in progress after my surgeries) i get great roll and carry. i think you'll love it especially if you want to go out and practice, i threw 10 games tuesday and had no problems getting tired or keeping up with the changing lane conditions. relax and let the ball do the work. after that 1st series i'd say you pretty much got it. just think how well you'll do after you get used to it. LOL

If you don't mind my asking.  How old are you folks?  I'm young and throw 15, but I've been contemplating going back down to 14.  I like to think I have enough speed(I say 15-16 off my hand) for most conditions except dry considering my rev rate(~275).  That main reason I'd go down, like you guys, would be because of the fatigue on the body.  I'm hesitant because I seem to leave more 10 pins with 14s(that's what I noticed when I went up to 15s anyways).

Something I was wondering, would you want to drill 14s weaker or stronger than you would 15s, or does it not make a difference?

im 1/2 way between 30 & 40
its not about fatigue for me
i can roll 16's all day if i wanted, but i can do more with a 14 than i can w/ a 15.

i am not worried now about 10 pins, i was before i made the switch.

control is priceless in this sport imo
i have more speed, more revs, and more confidence
also more accuracy, ability to change hand position easier, blah, blah, blah

sorry to hijack your post DD

just turned 56. i like my stuff drilled strong, that way even when the lanes break down, i can throw it a little firmer to get it to the break point. i do have a tour edition fury pearl drilled fairly weak for toast conditions.
