I've noticed a lot of bowling balls being traded/sold. My question to you is...."After plugging and redrilling the ball(s), use it for a while because you really like it, did you eventually go out and purchase the ball (i.e. new)? Is it safe to assume the majority of you all purchase used equipment because it's not only inexpensive, but mainly as a 'trial and error' sort of thing? Also, how long have you kept said equipment?

Curious to know. I've purchased used bowling balls (1st time and from a friend) but did so because I've been away from bowling in nearly 6 yrs (hence my Track Pearl Synergy was the last ball I purchased). I will be the first to admit things have changed... in a major way! I will also admit things are rather confusing with such a selection on the market. I'm at the point where I'm about to purchase a new ball (i.e. Zone Classic), however it's like a revolving door that never quits turning. You leave with one ball and a newer model takes its place.

It use to be reasons of economics which kept ball ownership under control. Now it depends upon whether you have enough space to keep all of them. Sawbones began a thread along the lines of "having too many balls and the confusion it creates". I'm in agreement with him, however when the turnover rate becomes high, I think it's human nature to want something 'new & improved'. Where does it stop?

Yep especially with my buzzsaws.

I bought a used Viper, and a Pro Purple, liked them then bought a new one
of each.

ALl of the smaller guys out there will sometimes find a ball with the same span as them, and a decent layout and go with that, but I can't do that

When I first got on this site, I was buying a lot of used equipment because I was looking for a replacement for my Rhino PRo T2, and I didn't want to buy a bunch of new equipment if I wasn't going to like it. 10's of 20's of balls later I have a closet full of Visionary equipment.(I had never heard of them until I got on this site)

I have tons of balls, but they are duplicates. I told myself if I found a replacement ball for the T2 I would buy a case, and I did.

I actually only have 4 bals, but because of multiples I have about 16 17

As far as how long I have had them, I keep the ball longenough to decide if I want a new one of that ball (about 4 weeks of bowling)

Every ball I have I got from someone off of the site used. Got a total of 6 now. Oldest is my Pearl Bomb, about 4 yrs old now. Newest is the Anomaly, about a month old.

To me, it isn't worth the trouble to buy a new ball just to find out I don't like it. I usually deal with people that have close to my span so I can just throw in a new thumb slug and give it a try.

If I don't like it, I usually give it to one of the kids at the alley. Only out $70-80 that way instead of $150. Plus, this lets me keep trying to find something that can overcome my atrocious bowling skills.

I have bought used balls and not to just try out, i have used them. I still have one in my arsenal.
