Michael Fagan on Discovery Channel
« on: December 10, 2008, 08:45:27 AM »
PBA star Michael Fagan and his bowling skills will be featured in a segment on the Discovery Channel program, Time Warp which will air on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. ET.

The show, which is hosted by MIT scientist and teacher Jeff Lieberman, uses the latest in high-speed photography to take events and slow them down to show exactly how events happen, in a form that your body can actually process.

This past September, Time Warp filmed Fagan bowling and broke down the physical side of the game, examining his release, the way a ball rolls on the lane, how it reacts to oil, the way the ball hits the pins and the deflection necessary to get a strike.

“It was a great experience,” Fagan said. “I jumped at the opportunity to do the show. It was really cool and I hope it comes across that way. I’ve been telling everyone I know to tune in.”

PBA fans can catch Fagan in action on Time Warp on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. ET and it will again re-air later that night at 12 a.m. ET.

I was very dissapointed in this clip.  I figured they'd get a few people to video ...to see the differnces in the releases between bowlers...oh well...it was still kind of cool, but not to my expectations

Jeez, why can't you guys just put spoiler warnings in your thread titles?  This is getting out of hand.  Where are the moderators???

I'm sorry for doing this, but what kind of douchebag really complains about a spoiler warning for something like this? This wasn't a live event where results matter or a movie or TV show where there's a surprise twist. It's a damn TV show about physics. Someone needs a helmet and a diaper!

Look up.  I think something just flew right over your head! (Gotta love it when people use sarcasm on the Internet and only half the people reading it get it)

Sorry Dan, but sarcasm doesn't translate well on this medium. also, on this board, you never can tell when one does because of all the idiots and whining p*ssies.

Good sarcasm and irony in writing is the kind that only half the people get and the other half think is real.

Next time I guess I'll add a million smileys which completely defeats the purpose of sarcasm if people can't read with a sense of humor from someone whose been posting on here since the beginning of time.

If you watch his release he gets the thumb hole on the left side of the ball with some side rotation and then somehow still comes up the back of the ball. It was wild.

its better on youtube where you can pause where you want to see something more

at approx 4:03 theres a decent view of the release.. looks almost like he could come out of it like a back up ball.

If you've never seen the pro's bowl in person I strongly encourage you to attend a PBA tournament if at all possible.  IMHO, the best day is the practice day when things are fairly relaxed.  You will be amazed at how they release the ball and how much they really get on it.  You just can't see what they're doing on TV, I don't know why but believe me, it's eye opening.  --  JohnP

OK it works but dont know why.
What an amazing armswing!
I tried this release but had problems to clear the thumb early enough. Its like there is no time to go with my fingers back again once i startet to go sideways.

I wish they would do more videos from more Pros.
