Brunswick Anaconda quit hooking?

My buddy got a new Brunswick Anaconda and it was working fantastic for about 8 weeks. Had great recovery, was bowling awesome scores with it. The shot got a little longer where we bowl and it was going a little to long so I hit it lightly with a gray scotch pad. It helped but was still not hooking much. Put the ball on my spinner and hit it with cleaner and the green pad. The ball isn't doing anything anymore. Its not rolling out, burning up it just goes and goes. Never seen a ball go from looking so good to not doing anything. So I hit it with the green pad again, soaked in hot water and repolished to 1000 grit. The surface feels tacky but I'm not sure if it will snap back to life. I'm not a big believer of ball death and some of gear is 10 years old and seems to work just as good as new but this ball really did quit. I thought brunswick covers are pretty durable and last a long time. Did I do something wrong to the ball. I've had my spinner for years and tweak covers all the time, never had a ball just quit. It's not him as his storm secret Agent was hooking. I threw it and I couldn't get it to move either. Any hep appreceated..

You might want to try and bring it back to original box finish .  And That is 500 grt, plus rough buff polish. I find my Anaconda needs to be resurfaced more often that most of my equipment. around 21 games or so. Then it works just fine.

I have a red zone and have found the coverstock to be very finicky compared to all my other stuff.

 

I am one that almost never says ..."that ball died'  But the Red Zone is unique to me.,  I've had Columbia particles not die after 10 years but I have this cycle in and out from useful to worthless.

 

The Red Zone data sheet says for a rough buff balls sand with 220 then rough buff!  Wow!  I'll try but I've never used 220 except for rough scratches before!  For Hi Gloss balls it says sand with 400 and polish with high gloss factory finish!

One of my customers' Anaconda started acting quite tame. First I tried the resurfacing and a touch of polish, then we tested it. Something was just not right. We threw it into the Revivor, it leaked oil for about 5 hours, then I finished the surface and the reaction is like new again. The customer couldn't be happier.
 
Find a pro shop with a Revivor or Rejuvenator and let them extract the oil. Sorry, but if I can pull oil out of a ball for 5 hours straight, you're not getting enough out by putting it into hot water. There is no comparison in the two methods. I have had a few balls go for 7-8 hours before they quit bleeding oil. The Revivor does the job right.

I had the same problem,had the ball baked and brought to out of box condition.I had 40 or more games on it.

 

The ball hooks like it use to now.

 

I think Brunswick recomends restoring the ball at 30 or more depending on lane conditions.

The ball was bleeding for 5 hours, thats a long time.

You were probably extracting the plasticizer.

Yeah, thats a big no-no.  Why would you even do this to a brand new ball?  Extracting plasticizer is no good and will kill a ball.
 
as for the OP, I too suggest a proper extraction method such as a revivor oven and then restore back to OOB surface if that's what worked best for him.  I have my Anaconda sanded to 500/4000 abralon which worked better for me.  Good luck!

I just did for a fraction of second to prove to somebody that it might not be lane oil coming out of your ball when you leave it in a hot car trunk all day. So if a new ball does this, isn't that what the rejuvinator is doing?

Put a brand new ball in an Innovative Bowling Products Revivor oven and plasticizer will not be extracted.  The hair dryer gets hot enough to do this, but the Revivor oven will stay around 130* evenly heating the ball as it turns.  Hot enough to extract oil slowly, but not hot enough to extract plasticizer.

Years ago, right after we bought the Revivor we did just that. We put two brand new balls from different companies into the Revivor for 4 hours and (in our test) absolutely nothing came out of the balls.
 
Remember that there are plasticizers in the lane oil. Once a ball has been used, and heat applied to the ball, part of the oil extracted will be the plasticizer.  Whether or not plasticizer will be removed from a ball when excessive heat applied is up to those who know. I have not applied excessive heat to a ball so cannot answer to that one.

Thanks to those the replied. Put the ball back on spinner and hit with burgandy scotchbrite pad. Soaked in hot water for 20 minutes, wiped it off a few times. Polished with 1000 grit Reacta-Shine. (not sure how this compares with rough+buff). The ball came back to life and worked great.
