My husband and I bowled the pro-am this past week in Phoenix. It was our first, and we had a great time ... no nerves at all. I'm sure it helped that I knew going in that I probably wasn't going to be in the money, so the good time was my prize. Sadly, I seemed to be playing 8-pin in a 9-pin world. Made most of my spares, but couldn't keep up with all those 9-count strikes.
We bowled with Mike Scroggins, Chris Loschetter, Jack Jurek, Walter Ray, Brian Himmler and Tom Baker. They were all very nice and seemed pleased to be bowling with us. My only complaint about the whole thing was that we had a "good" (read "I think I'm great") bowler on our pair who did his best to dominate each of the pros' attention during their five frames on our lanes. Only Himmler and Baker allowed that to happen.
Oh, a slight disappointment ... we were hoping to bowl on the shot put out for the tournament, but they put out a THS for the pro-am. We asked if this was normal, and Scroggins told us it depends on the house running the show.
Now my only dilemma is how to get my PBA Inferno drilled. I don't think I've ever before had a ball with a 1.3 oz. top weight. Should be interesting. At least I got a nice pin!
Have a blast and enjoy the time you get with the pros. Even though it's advertised, they don't do a lot of "coaching" during their time on your lanes, but if you ask, they'll watch you and offer suggestions. Jurek gave me some great advice on how to improve my roll with a slight hand adjustment.
